Congrats Crime Dogg…see you in Cooperstown. Smoltzy is still bald
Well deserved. My favorite as a kid. Bull**** that Murph still isn't in.
If Murphy had played for the Yankees or Cubs he'd have been elected within a couple years of being eligible.
It's a shame Murph and Mattingly didn't get more love. Both are HOF-caliber players and individuals. If you are putting together a 25-man roster of the decade of the '80s both make it without question. Eventually, both will get in but it may be posthumously. As for Bonds, Schilling, and Clemens screw them. At a point in their careers, they decided glory was more important than dignity and respect for the game. The sad part is Bonds and Clemens were Hall worthy without the help. Can't say that about Schilling conclusively.

Schilling doesn't belong in the same camp as Clemens and Bonds. What's keeping Schilling out are literally things he's said/done after he retired.
As for Mattingly and Murphy. They had high peaks but not enough body of work to get into the HOF. McGriff's career should be about as low of a threshold as there is to get in. The one guy from the 80's who should be looked at above Murph and Mattingly is Keith Hernandez.
Murph's a two-time MVP as a Braves fan I don't see how you can be against enshrinement. His body of work is fine it was the last decade of real fair baseball in more ways than one.
We've already set the new standard of it being a big hall rather than a small hall. Murphy was among the very best players offensively in the '80s.
Because I can be a non-homer and look at things objectively. 44 career WAR just isn't good enough.
A silly stat that didn't exist in the 80s should not be held against him.
