Official official offseason thread

At this point I find it more likely AA trades for Kim from SD than signs Swanson or Correa. These deals for Turner/Xander makes me think Correa will get ~$300M and Swanson may approach $200M...which is ludicrous.

Guys like Iglesias and Andrus don't seem like clear upgrades over Arcia, so I don't see the need to bid on them unless their markets aren't driven up by the high end SS market.

WOW I didn’t realize he was almost a 5 WAR player last year

It's not broken. Players are gonna make what they can. Some owners' philosophy is you get what you PAY for. The Braves will have to learn this the hard way or get legit ownership. No way Fried, Acuna or Albies re-sign here. Riley and Harris got to be saying we messed up by committing that long.

This has to be a legit troll account, right? No one can be this ignorant.

In a way it's nice to see MLB contracts going nuts again, but it sucks to see a "Top 5 Payroll" still puts the team $50M-$100M less than the real big boys.

I guess this is just a cyclical thing? Contracts go nuts and maybe the wealthy teams win a few World Series. Then a few of the nuts contracts become absolute disasters, a smart GM wins a World Series or two, and the trend goes towards more conservative contracts. Repeat. Then a team starts outspending everyone and is successul and the cycle begins anew.

Fortunately we don't have to worry about those decisions until 2029 for Acuña, 2028 for Albies, and 2025 for Max.

If Liberty going public means they are getting ready to sell the Braves then the Braves have to keep winning to get the most money. No telling how high AA has permission to go.

Mets probably about to get him for 7-years, 245 million or something

The most amusing Mets drama will be in 3 years when Cohen loses interest in his pet project and stops pumping unlimited cash into payroll. The resulting fire sale is going to be an epic meltdown.

It's not like they sold out every game last season....Braves actually out drew them by a little over 5k fans per game.

At some point, its going to not make financial sense to have that kind of payroll.

Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports that Swanson and the Braves “haven’t had any legit negotiations since the offseason began.” Atlanta’s most recent offer to Swanson was a six-year deal in the $16-17MM range annually, per Bowman, which aligns with last month’s reports that the Braves had offered Swanson a deal in the vicinity of $100MM.

Cohen still has most of his fortune thanks to being saved from disaster during the Memestock Gamestop bubble

That seems fair, but once dansby gets 180-220, it'll seem pretty insulting

When you have that much money, not everything you do has to make financial sense. Have to remember that a $400m payroll is something like 4% of Cohen's personal net worth.
