Official official offseason thread

Joey Votto is owed $25M this year and a $7M buyout the following year. That’s pretty close to the $36 Ozuna is owed. They’re stockpiling prospects.

This is assuming Votto would even agree to be traded or a DH.

You can’t trade a franchise legend for someone with Ozuna’s baggage. No GM is going to want to touch that.

He should already be trying to sign Correa. We supposedly did last offseason. If we were willing to give Riley 10 years, we should be willing to give Correa 10. But I know it’s not my money…

AA is 100% all in with this core, so you’re correct in stating he may as well go even more all in with Correa. If this core fails towards the end like the old Phillies core of Rollins/Utley/Howard, then AA will be fired anyways and it won’t matter what he spent…that will be the next GM’s problem during a 5+ year rebuild.

Perhaps McGuirk keeps him.

Hell Brian Cashman has survived this long for the Yanks. I think AA will get multiple lives, it's up to him if he ends up sticking it out through the rebuild or finds another prospective project attractive.

Correa does make sense to bite the bullet and sign a big deal for. i do worry about where the pitching comes from the next couple of years. but you’ve got a nice long window here with a great core.

With the pitching, shoot first, ask questions later.

With Correa, a healthy Ronald and Ozzie, and a more relaxed Olson, we run up the score again on everyone.

Correa needs to happens. He’s a perfect fit. Prime years fit right into championship window. Make it happen AA.

I seriously believe AA sign one of the starting pitchers like Chris Bassitt to 2 years deal with a option. I don’t think Braves are going sign no one to a long deal contract. If they sign anyone will be for Correa. But I think at the end of the day Correa join the Mets.

Correa does make a ton of sense for us, just no idea if we're even in on him at this point. Have no idea what we're even trying to do, given there's zero leaks about anything Braves related.

Everyone is about to be extremely disappointed. I just don’t see AA committing 300+ million and 10+ years on someone no matter how much it makes sense. While I do agree that you couldn’t find a more ideal fit for us, I just don’t think it happens. Until AA gives out one of these types of deals, it’s safe to assume he won’t do it. Ozuna is the largest free agent contract he’s given out while our GM and that’s aged very poorly.

Correa does make to much sense. He fits the timeline perfectly. I’m sure AA has had some dialogue with them but I don’t like AA’s stance on things. He said he doesn’t approach players that they need to approach him. If you want a player then why be so stubborn and not pursue them?

I think we add Bassitt, Manaea or Eovaldi to have those extra pitchers for a trade.

Is this based on anything or just a gut feeling? I’d love to add any of them.
I been watching Braves since 1991 and I think we never signed any free agents to a 10 year deal. Braves always like the short deals. If Bassitt take 2-3 years is great because the season is 162 games and we can keep the rotation fresh for the whole season. Look at the bullpen we have Anderson, Yates, Iglesias and Jimenez all with closer experience.

I’m willing to bet anyone anything AA doesn’t add a SP anywhere near that significant. The Braves have a legit top 4 and plenty of options to fill the last spot.

I agree with this.

In the past, it was clear when AA wouldn’t spend money bc he wanted to see what we had or wait until the trade deadline to reassess; but as of today, our team is virtually set up all across the board for this season and the future except for ss and lf. One could make an argument we’ll see what Ozuna and Rosario can do in lf before making a trade, but we legitimately have nothing worth a damn at ss on the big league roster or in the minors. No matter how much they want to spin Grissom looking good with Wash, he’s not a starting ss in the majors, much less for a top 5 payroll team who’s contending for a championship every single year.

To further compound the issue at ss, there is now a top ss available who is 28 years old and a long term contract would coincide with our window and length of contracts of everyone else on the team.

It would be an absolutely perfect singing, but I’ve seen this situation before. I have absolutely no confidence in us signing Correa. Instead, we will once again sit on our hands and do nothing except for a minor, redundant move of the players we already have on the roster. And if it plays out that we do nothing of consequence, then when, if ever, will we see AA shove his chips all in? If not now, there literally isn’t another time that is more perfect.
