Official official offseason thread

yeah, I absolutely hate this trade.

no way we should be giving up a younger (possibly better) plus a **** load of other assets for a great catcher that will be playing split time... I am done with trade.. BS..

Source confirms that Milwaukee's end of this trade was:

UTL Esteury Ruiz (to OAK)
for
RHP Justin Yeager (from ATL), RHP Joel Payamps (from OAK), and C William Contreras (from ATL)

Still unclear if there's more names exchanged between ATL and OAK than have been reported.

That’s a very light package to give up for what they got in return

Wow so we gave up 1 of our biggest trade assets for another C but granted 1 of the top 3 in baseball and saved 4 million in the process. AA has to have something else coming soon.

AA will work his magic on Murphy so those extra years right now means nothing to me.

Pina- eh. Happy we freed up his 4.5 million
Muller - never a fan
Tarnok- good prospect
Contreras - good hitter, but not a good defensive catcher

Murphy - gold glove catcher who can hit - if you want to see hurt, go read how As fans think about trading Murphy. Go read Mets and Phillies fans wondering how we just landed a top tier catcher in baseball.

Opinions are opinions. And mine is I’m thrilled.

All true (except I was a fan of Muller), but the downside is that Murphy grew up in the Hudson River Valley so there's no chance he will give us a hometown discount.

That's all well and good, but giving up all that to (thethe's) point..get marginally better is interesting. I'm not like most of the people who don't think Contreras can be a better catcher. We know he'll hit. Seems steep, and I'm saying it as a fan of Murphy.

I’m just confused about why. We started the day with SS and LF holes. Now we give up Contreras, Muller and Tarnok for a slight upgrade at catcher and still have the same holes? What’s the point?

Dansby, come on down.

I've felt he was gone all offseason, but now I think differently

So basically the Brewers gave up a speed guy who will never hit for a good bat/questionable D catcher and a couple of arms.

an extention doesn't make this deal any different. What happens after means nothing.

“Marginally better”

Maybe if we were that much better last year, we beat the phillies

Murphy is going to be a great addition. Dude has a cannon for an arm. And with the bigger bases and only being able to throw over twice, that is going to be an asset.

Contreras is questionable at C, although slightly better with the bat. I'll take Murphy. Mueller and Tarnok never seemed to be in our future plans.

But they will have to rely heavily on Soroka or Anderson finding their form.
