Braves get Murphy 3 way deal

Contreras has poor frame rates, poor pop times, and only threw out 14% of base runners. Granted he is still pretty young, but he's already about to be 25. I don't know how much improvement you can realistically expect.

Anyone know where to find catcher's ERA? I would be willing to bet he's on the high side there too.

Agreed. Problem is. Contreras, Grissom and Malloy were our only real trade chips. Malloy not as much obviously, 2 of 3 are gone and we still have a hole at SS, LF and DH.

Well that’s why it was a bit of a head scratcher. I’d add Anderson as a pretty significant trade chip, but your point is still valid. Hopefully subsequent moves will make these concerns moot.

As far as filling the rest of the 40-man, I'd like to see us pick up another lefty reliever. Doesn't look to be a whole lot in free agency that would be worthwhile. I wonder what AA could work up in a trade.

FGDC and steamer both project Esteury Ruiz at104 wrc+. If he's an above avg hitter, he could be pretty valuable with his speed, right?

I'm still failing to understand how the Brewers gave up ONE mediocre bench player and got back THREE pretty decent players.

A complete fleecing of Oakland, even if WC just turns out to be a decent part time catcher. Crazy what Mil got for essentially nothing.

If he learns to steal first, he may turn out to be at least serviceable. Really good SB numbers in 2022.

d’Arnaud seemed to really overperform offensively last year. if he’s a 100 wRC+ hitter or worse he’s a lot less valuable.

So, does AA announce an extension? He’ll get paid like Realmuto at $25m per in 3 years. Maybe we can get a discount on those first 2 FA years.

well since we will have no catcher in 3 years now, we almost have to.. but I doubt he can extend him this year and take the hit on the luxury tax. Any extention will have to be in the next 2 years as money comes off the books.

Murphy is already 28 with 3 years of team control left. Not sure we want a long term deal. If we could sign him to a deal that buys out 2-3 years of free agency it might be good but I would really like to see how he performs here first. He doesnt have to regress that far to be an albatross in the lineup. I would like this deal so much more if Contreras wasnt involved. He could have atleast been a quality option at DH while giving us a good 3rd catcher option in case of injury. I can only assume the Braves think they are selling high on him.
