Braves get Murphy 3 way deal

The oddest thing is the trade didn't even clear any payroll. Like....why not make the Brewers eat Rosario? They gave up literally nothing, and their GM deserves major props for stealing Contreras and some filler arms.

Yeah the Milwaukee side of this thing is beyond bizarre. I don’t get it.

braves much feel like wild bill isn't this good of a hitter and/or a really bad defender.

Just read the Klaw article and he says he's not sure Contreras isn't the better player. Said Murphy likely 1-2 WAR more b/c of defense but Wild bill the better hitter.

I know Murphy and Tda hit well for catchers....I don't see them hitting well enough for DH. I said the same thing about Wild Bill last year and was wrong, Wild Bill had some good stat cast numbers to suggest better performance.

I hope others are right about other moves. B/c I still see issues at LF, SS and DH. And I don't think Grissom is a great answer for any of them.

I almost want to say Murphy said get me the hell out of here and he'll sign for 5/75 with infinity team options.

Not really but that seems to be the AA plan.

It’s hard to believe Milwaukee got all to at without giving up anything of real value. Just crazy. Their GM fleeced Oakland.

Yeah they get Bill and give up one player, that just seems so odd.

Maybe the A's did not want contreras....

Would you rather have given up Grissom than Contreras and kept the Brewers out?

Without question yes...

Perhaps I'm overvaluing Contreras' bat, and not understanding how poor he is defensively, but I saw him as the answer at DH and insurance behind the plate. He basically made the Ozuna contract go away because he is as good as we hoped Ozuna was going to be.

That's the puzzling part for me. You could put Contreras behind the plate for 40 games with a frying pan and a pitchfork and he can be DH the rest of the time. There's a synergy between Contreras and d'Arnaud that doesn't exist between Murphy and d'Arnaud.

The other part is that Anthopoulos seems to be clearing the decks of Roy Clark's guys which is all well and good I suppose, but Muller, Tarnok, and Salinas could have been helpful chips in other deals. I know we as fans can all be guilty of overvaluing our own prospects, but bodies are bodies and these guys have at least shown out a little bit. Maybe Muller and Tarnok are AAAA guys and Salinas a hook shot from half court, but I think they could have been used to address other seemingly more pressing needs.

If you are spending more than 2 brain cells thinking about Muller, Tarnok, and Salinas...you're wasting those braincells.

The spent ammunition was Contreras, and nothing else in the deal even registers.

agreed, those guys don’t matter at all to the Braves imo

Agreed. Problem is. Contreras, Grissom and Malloy were our only real trade chips. Malloy not as much obviously, 2 of 3 are gone and we still have a hole at SS, LF and DH.

Like the rest of you, waiting to see what the rest of the moves are before judging. We get a clear upgrade at C that we didn't particularly need, while trading away a very good DH option. Clearing some room on the 40-man is also nice as we had a logjam.

Oh, I get that those three are filler much like Cusick and Estes were last year. They were needed to get the deal done here and it's only that this deal is a little unexpected makes me think of them much at all. I think they've all been slated to be shed. Just thought it might be in a different deal. Alone, these guys net next-to-nothing.

I'm still failing to understand how the Brewers gave up ONE mediocre bench player and got back THREE pretty decent players.
