Braves get Murphy 3 way deal

offensively, maybe. defensively, nope.

I'm not concerned with offense value vs defense value. I'm concerned with overall value.

Murphy projects as a 4 win player in 2023. Ozuna projects as a 1 win player.

TDA projects as a 1.4 win player. Contreras projects as a 2.3 win player.

Upgrading from 3.7 wins to 5 wins is not the slam dunk required to forgo upgrading SS and LF. So until SS and LF are upgraded, I'll continue to be skeptical of this trade. In a vacuum I love the trade because Murphy is awesome.

Anyways, we are to the point where everyone says the same thing over and over, and folks are just arguing over semantics now.

I would like to see what Numerous actually equates to. I think you are playing with fire in that scenario.

Just eyeballing it roughly, looks like around 45 games. A significant chunk in September and into October when they were in the race with the Mets. I don't think it happened for the first time until May after Pina had gone down.

yes, I did see quite a few games. not sure if that was prior to the pina injury or what. I don't remember specifics or me thinking what is twit doing having WC and TDA in the same game. But it does seem that numerous is a very true statement.

You could still do it with tromp in AAA. If one gets hurt, bring up tromp with the unhurt one catching full time. Both have caught full time

I may be off base here. But I'm not sure what or how many 4 WAR players at SS or LF with 3 years of team control are available and would only cost what we gave up. It's odd because we dealt from a position of strength and made it better. I think AA saw a move to acquire a legit all-star caliber player and moved on it.

So far it appears aa is doing exactly what many on the board wanted. He’s waiting out the free agents.

Guys know what the Braves are willing to pay. Do you want max money or do you want to play on a stud team for good money?

Might end up with nothing. Might end up with a stud.

we might need to see some lineups with and without projected acquisitions or free agents to have a better understanding of what our team on paper might look like.

If we have to trade Fried to free up money to plug the holes in our lineup, my pissed-offness is going to be directed at all the money we gave Morton at the end of his career.

Bottom line, if we are forced to trade the only true stud we have in the rotation because of budget AA is not the GM I think he is. He threw unnecessary money at Riley, Harris, and Morton if this is the case.

Lol the MLB network really riled some of you guys up. There's zero chance Fried is traded this off season so take your tampon out.

But what if fried was traded for FF?

Virginia's head just exploded

Write up from FG echoes pretty much exactly why I'm not sold on this trade: https://blogs.fangraphs.com/three-t...winner-examining-the-sean-murphy-blockbuster/

"If I were Alex Anthopoulos, I’m not sure I would’ve used my trade capital to upgrade a position where Atlanta was already strong....Murphy is an absolute stud who’s under team control for three more years and will make relative peanuts that whole time."

Those two sentences sum up the Braves end perfectly. Then he sums up how the Brewers fleeced the Braves and As in this trade: "They got a middle-of-the-order bat, at a premium position and under team control from now until the Sun swallows the Earth, plus a live bullpen arm and a hard-throwing Double-A reliever. And all it cost them was a young outfielder they didn’t think they could use."

The Brewers somehow got to act as the middleman, supplied almost no value to the transaction, and came away with the 2nd most valuable piece in the entire 9 player deal. Outrageous heist by their GM.

I still DO NOT understand why AA made this deal smh. I'm still sitting here with my mouth wide open. 5 players given up for 1 guy and the Brewers robbing both teams.

Most of the analysis I’ve seen on the trade focuses on this year. To me it seems this move is more about 2024-2025.

d’Arnaud is at the age where he could fall off a cliff at any minute. If the aging curve hits him this year, or if the Braves just choose not to resign him, they are looking at Contreras catching 130 games in 2024.

That’s the only way I can make it make sense.

Quick, someone post our roster following the Fried for Freddie trade coupled with the Rodon and Correa signings. I’ll start…

Acuna
Correa
Freddie
Riley
Olson
Albies
Murphy
Harris
Ozuna/Rosario

yes. saw a chance to acquire a stud and took it. that’s been my view.

Trading Fried right now would be insane. But for arguments sake let’s say AA has tried to extend him and Fried isn’t interested and wants to get back to SoCal. Who would be the team that would likely give up the most for him?

I don't see it happening, but if you signed rodon, it would be possible. Again, doubt it
