Official official offseason thread

I think we are still in on Dansby and I think Dansby genuinely wants to come back. Of course it all depends on money but if he does come back somehow I expect a deal for Grissom at some point to bring back a young OF. Machado has said he’s gonna opt out so that’ll be another big bat on the market.

I really want him back

I can’t imagine trading our pitching depth with an unknown Soroka and 70 year old Morton. Plus strider will go down just like every other flame thrower every year.

I dunno… we still have some pretty good depth. Also I bet there would be a vet or 2 signed for more depth if it happened.

Dansby would have to take a very very deep discount to comeback. I doubt the 6/100 whatever is our best offer but he's getting way more than we'll offer, can we close the gap enough? No clue.

Idk, Rosario is projected to be a 3-win player
Then I think Cleveland would like to keep him and win the division again.

Budget version of this plan, which I haven't seen mentioned, is Isiah Kiner-Falefa. Yankees also staring down a surfeit of better/younger SS options, Kiner-Falefa is set to make only $6m in 2023 (before reaching FA), and Steamer projects him at 1.0 fwar (mostly driven by decent defense, with a projected 93 wrc+ / .296 woba) in about 38% of a season's worth of PAs. Give him the full-time job, and that projects around 2.5 fwar. He's only 27, and even if he comes in under that projection, I'd think 1.5-2.0 fwar is a reasonably-likely floor—not a bad baseline for $6m. Worst-case, he's a defensive sub for Grissom—doesn't have the pop of Arcía, but most likely better with the glove at any infield spot than Arcía is.

The Yankees obviously aren't going to pinch pennies, like the Guardians, but I'd still think the trade cost would be reasonable, given their roster outlook. Of course, the overall needle might not be substantial enough to roll that $6m die, when Arcía is only slated to make $1.5m and might not be too far off Kiner-Falefa, if given a season's worth of opportunities at SS.

That’s been my thoughts as well but there has to be something keeping him from signing. I’m sure he’s had offers quite a bit stronger than ours. But something is keeping him from signing for whatever reason

What about 6-150?

Thats probably close, i dont know if the feeling is mutual with the Braves and Dansby.

I'm not even certain that Bae is going to be worth 6/$120m, so I can understand Anthopoulos balking at 6/$150. You have to really buy in to 2022's numbers to think even 6/$120 is a good deal—and if the Braves' internal prognosticatory systems align even closely with what fan-facing systems are spitting out for Grissom in 2023, it makes the decision even more difficult, given the plethora of defensive specialist options one could use to mitigate Grissom's defensive shortcomings later in games.

I don't envy Anthopoulos & Team, as they've had to really tough FA calls to make two off-seasons in a row.

Dansby just got married, thats what is holding up him signing. I'd expect Dansby to make a decision next week sometime. Front offices usually shutdown after Christmas so would think something before then. He's the last big FA left standing with Rodon to NYY.
