Official official offseason thread

And I can't see AA offering Conforto multiple years, and I'm pretty sure someone will. AA would need to gamble with a Donaldson-type offer, not quite as much money, but high enough to entice Conforto. If we did get Conforto, I would still look to add Duvall or Grossman — probably Duvall since he could cover CF on occasion, although Snit likely won't rest Harris.

Boras said he wants an opt out and thats something AA doesnt do for Conforto. I'm not sure what he does but he needs to do something for the outfield. Current options just not cutting it. Only way we add 2 outfielders is if we trade Rosario, dont think we have roster room for 2 more outfielders.

With arb we are a file and trial team.

What we’ve seen now is you either extend or you’re gone as a free agent.

Don’t be surprised when max is gone.

No judgment from me that from either side. If you’ve earned more money and want that more than being a brave, go get it.

Still interested in Ian Happ. Maybe they won't move him b/c they have Swanson and others.

I'm not sure I'd give up on Ian anderson for 1 year of Happ. Elder, maybe....Shuster I'm not a big believer in....

It isn’t about what we have done or graduated. It is about replacing what is leaving. We used prospects to replace first. We used more prospects to replace a catcher when it wasn’t a priority. But we can’t replace short or LF. Like we have been saying this is how a contention window closes. We run out of money and prospects to improve on the team. The Dodgers and astros haven’t run out of either. I am fine with taking a careful approach. But when you make a win now move and create another hole in 3 years then I would hope you have a better plan than role with Arcia and Ozuna and hope for the best.

I still don’t think money is an issue. If AA deems somebody a good buy he’ll do it. I’d take a chance on Chapman and see if he has anything left. He may need a change of scenery.

You're assuming Grissom isn't a replacement. It's surely not a sure thing, but he's projected at 2.3/2.5 fWAR this season.

We do have Grissom and Wash does seem to believe in him. I'm content with the SS situation as is. DH can be migated with rotation of catchers, Ozuna, Rosario, others, etc. LF is the bigger concern than DH/SS. No one has superstars 1-9, look around baseball.

Presumably 13 position spots available. 11 spots currently spoken for assuming Arcia and Grissom are both on the team. There would be room unless we go with Adrianza as well. If we got Conforto and Duvall for example, there's no need for Hilliard. He's a lefty who can't hit lefties, or anyone for that matter. We probably wouldn't go with that many outfielders. Adding Drury or Profar would be beneficial for their ability to play infield and outfield. If we don't go with any other outfielders, I hope we put a third catcher on the roster to allow for more TDA/Murphy DH appearances.

I've assumed they'd ask for Grissom. I am guessing they are going to at least try to contend and will wait until the deadline to unload him.

I can see a 3rd C to give TDA/Murphy more AB's. But i'd hope it's someone better than Tromp. Havent really looked into who is available on the FA market. But if we dont wanna do that, i guess we could add a lesser guy like Duvall/Grossman with a bigger tier outfielder as well. At least thats what i would do.

There's not much of anything left. Alfaro might be the best available, and he'll want to go somewhere where he can get a little more time. Gary Sanchez would have already been signed if he was a better defensive catcher. This whole situation is why I wasn't wild about Pina being traded.

Taylor makes sense as a 5th OF, but I don’t understand why the Braves want him at $4.5M when they didn’t want Heredia for less than half that. I still contend Heredia wasn’t used properly and could have been more valuable as a Brave than he was.

Maybe we're planning on running a lot more to take advantage of the bigger bases.

Daulton Varsho would make some sense in a trade. Athletic Catcher who moved to the OF. It’d be nice to have a 3rd catching option in case of injury if we plan on Murphy/TDA DHing when not catching.

Varsho is an interesting candidate, but we need someone who can hit LHP, and we probably need to save trade capital for the deadline at this point.
