Official official offseason thread

Correa’s contract expected to be “dramatically different” if he signs with Mets per Bleacher Report (not the greatest source). very interesting situation.

He must wanna play there. No way I'd give any on a contract to them after they knew there was an issue

assume any team could negotiate with BorAss, but the same flag will keep coming up on his physical.. so it depends on what the Mets come back with. Whatever they are offering, BorAss is going to shop it to other teams to see if they want to bring him in for a physical and try and beat it.

I wonder if it would be better to just release his physical to other teams and tell them to make their best offer based on his results.

So Luplow takes Duvall's spot on the roster for about 9 million cheaper. Assuming that we aren't going to sign a SS, I would like to see us sign a versatile lefty that can play all over and be our top hitter off the bench. Jurickson Profar is my top choice
here. But some other decent options are:

Cesar Hernandez (switch hitter)
Rougned Odor
Edwin Rios
Dee Strange-Gordon.

Any of those would round out the roster very nicely and give us a very strong bench. The last 4 on this list should come extremely cheap

Edit: I could have sworn Brian Anderson was a lefty.

Carlos Baerga says the Red Sox are locking up Devers at 11/332

confirmed now per Passan and Rosenthal. 11/331, not 332 (as if it matters lol). I figured Boston would keep him, Bloom would basically be ridden out of town if Devers was gone too.

Riley’s and Devers’ extensions were done at very different times in their years of control. Comparing them isn’t remotely apples to apples.

Sure. The context under which each contract was signed is different but from a roster building perspective moving forward that doesn’t matter.

Braves control Riley’s age 26-35 seasons for $212m
Red Sox control Dever’s age 26-37 seasons for $331m.

On a related note, how amazing is the Jose Rameriz extension for Cleveland? They control his age 29-36 seasons for $140m. Good chance he’d surpass $300m if he made it to UFA in 2024.

yeah the deals are definitely at least *remotely* apples to apples due to the ages they cover

Riley had 3 years of control before FA, Devers was entering his last year so he had alot more leverage. Plus Austin being from the south probably took alot less to stay with Atlanta. His FA years are basically 7 years, 22 per each year with a club option for 20 million to make it 8 years.

You are way overthinking what was benign comment (arguing semantics lol). I only pointed out that it’s a good thing we are paying Riley $120m less for the same seasons as Devers when they are essentially the exact same player. Seems like a good contract to me!
