Here comes sunshine : spring training game 1

Games can't end that way and even as much of an apologist for the modern game as you are you know it.

I quite literally wrote that. The difference is I can refrain from blanket moronic statements, and see the nuance of the situation.

You are a typical reflexive idiotic baseball fan too stupid to think beyond “new is bad”.

I wonder if the umpires are going to try to make a statement about the new rules by making a few completely ridiculous calls just to illustrate the stupidity of how they could be abused.

Reasonable. I’d rather see these obviously ludicrous examples play out in ST so things can be adjusted over the next few weeks.

Bottom line is this type of incident can’t decide a game.

Everyone would agree that games can't end on that. I wonder how long until MLB Rules Committee agrees.

The point of the pitch clock is to speed up the game. Once you get to the 9th inning, they should take it away as the time has already been made up earlier in the game. That would ensure the game doesn't end this way.

But it is crazy to imagine big moments being ruined by the batter not getting in box or pitchers not making the pitch.....imagine that in a playoff game or world series.

He’s not wrong about Manfred being a dumb **** though.

Wait, did I just write that?

These changes will make very little difference over time. Gen Z and forward will never be baseball fans. They simply don't have the attention span and likely never will. All this ridiculousness is farting in a windstorm.

Jesse Chavez isn’t really “in the mix” I wouldn’t say….. keeping in mind that I’m not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but I would say Chavez is a stone cold lock to make Snit’s opening day roster

Chavez is in the Josh Tomlin role now. Veteran leader that should be only getting mop up innings but snit will use in medium to high leverage situations.. Snit was already raving about how Jesse is the first guy there in the morning at like 4am before anyone.

I don’t care the gene ended that way. Only way to ensure the rules are adhered to is to enforce them in all situations. The rules changes this past year were brilliant and will result in a huge increase in interest as time moves on.

I’m not opposed to the rule changes, but I highly doubt shortening the average game length by 30-45 minutes is going to spark massive newfound interest in the sport. Nor will the strategy of bigger leads and more steals vs. increased pickoff throws from the catcher. What might help is the sport not intentionally making it difficult for fans to watch their team every night.

Yeah - you guys hit the nail on the head.
They want to grow the sport? It’s not going to be shortening the game….. if kids in the southeast can’t watch the Braves in the first place, then what’s the point of shortening the game? Mind boggling.
This continues to be - literally- the dumbest business decision since excite.com turned down the offer to buy google for 750k.

That’s right, keep your best customers and future customers away from your product.
Brilliant.

Sorry to hijack thread.

Game two is on MLBTV- Elder on hump with a total minor league spring training road game lineup…..except Marcel- hope he is raking all spring - more likely that a bat flies out of MH2’s ass.

1. Pillar LF
2. Arcia SS
3. Ozuna DH
4. Hilliard CF
5. Casteel 1B
6. Adrianza 2B
7. White RF
8. Hudson C
9. Dunand 3B

The intent is not to shorten games. The intent is to not wait 30 seconds between every single pitch, and 4 minutes between every ball put in play.

People will adapt.

I like the faster pace. It keep a you in the game instead of wondering off in your mind while you wait 2 minutes for another pitch

The looming threat of a steal is something I miss too.

Except that shorter games has been used as a selling point. I fully support not having to wait two minutes for a batter to climb in the box or keeping pitchers from throwing over six times in one at bat. I especially support Alvarado for the Phillies not being allowed to delay a game in every stadium so the mound can be fixed to his specifications.
