Official official offseason thread

I wonder if we’re going to have to revise pitch count limits for pitchers due to the increased pace. I wonder if it’s going to make pitchers fatigue quicker.

I think the answer is likely yes. You'll definitely see fastball velocity go down a tick or two- the type of max effort throwing we've seen will become harder to sustain, which ultimately is going to be useful for batters putting the ball in play more.

This article is from 2017, so I imagine the time between pitches and resulting velocity uptick only got worse between then and 2022. https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/pitchers-are-slowing-down-to-speed-up/

Dodgers SS Gavin Lux looks like he suffered a pretty severe knee injury the other day. All reports sound bad.

Wonder who they have to step up.

Edit: Confirmed it is a torn ACL

Machado will receive a $45MM signing bonus that’ll be spread out over the 11-year duration of the contract. He’ll be paid $13MM in each of the next three seasons, $21MM in 2026 and then $35MM per season from 2027-33.

That contract is going to look really ugly on the back half.

They are gonna care greatly on down the road … and will have to suffer some tough tough rebuilds - some of these contracts are gonna be undumpable

The high AAV deals I get but these 11-13 year deals and paying these guys when they are 40+ are insane. There’s no good end to those deals.

Yeah he basically said Atlanta fans suck compared to Chicago fans. He was never gonna be welcomed back like FF was anyway. The Cubs won’t finish better than 3rd in that division.

And that the 177m helped him decide this team was a winner
