GDT #6, 4/6/'14: Braves (Wood) @ Nationals (Jordan) 1:35 PM EST [The Dark Wood Rises]

It is frustrating, but with just a little offense we could be 6-0 right now. Pitching has been phenomenal.

and that was the big concern going in, starting pitching. That and Uggla/BJ who are hitting a liitle, so I'm feeling pretty optimistic.

Quality of the starting pitching wasn't in question, just depth and health. It helped to sign Santana and switch Garcia for Harang.

As much as I voice my displeasure about him we need Justin back in the 2 hole. That was special last year and it was completely asinine to move away from that at the start of the year.

I would say if you don't have Justin or Johnson in the 2 hole, things aren't good. One should be 2 the other 4. Depending on how you want to construct your lineup Bossman at 2 is just dumb though. GOod games or not I don't care, he's not a 2 hitter. He's the same basic hitter as Dan Uggla and you wouldn't hit Uggla at 2.

Johnson would do even better with Freeman protecting him. And if you want to do something to boost BJ you could just bat him 5th behind his brother. That back-to-back deal might work nicely for both of them.

Heyward
Johnson
Freeman
Justin
BJ
Uggla
Gattis
Simmons
P

I actually would rather Justin in the 2 hole than CJ. CJ makes a lot of contact but isn't as selective as Justin and that would give Heyward more a chance to run.

I like more of a free swinger in the cleanup spot personally. I think he will have a lot of opportunities to drive guys in and you need to get the bat off your shoulders to capitalize in those opportunities.

Yeah. Either works, really, and I think Justin benefits more than Johnson from protection.

Agreed. THe number one focus for the organization right now is to figure out how to get Justin Upton rolling. When he was hitting the ball we were a machine last year.

I've only read a couple pages of this thread and I'm not sure what to make of it. All I keep reading about is Wood, Johnson's, 2 holes and protection.

EDIT:

And BJ's. How could I miss BJ'S?

I really don't care about the lineup too much aside from the first 4 spots. ONe of our worst hitters hitting in the top 4 is a terrible idea. Fredi did it last year with Simmons, now he's doing it with BJ.

I like this lineup:

Furcal
Lockhart
Sheffield
Jones
Jones
Castilla
Franco
Lopez
P

We all can't have what we want though...

And did it in 2011 with Schafer and Prado.

My ideal lineup for this year would be:

1) Heyward CF

2) Prado 2B

3) Freeman 1B

4) J Upton LF

5) McCann C

6) C Johnson 3B

7) Gattis LF

8) Simmons SS
