Ervin Santana will start for AAA Gwinnett Friday, be on schedule to make Braves debut next Wednesday at home vs Mets.

WASHINGTON -- Ervin Santana will make his Braves debut next week as long as he gets through the side session he is scheduled to complete on Sunday or Monday. Atlanta manager Fredi Gonzalez said he is still leaning toward sending Santana to the mound to start Wednesday's game against the Mets.

"We've got really high hopes that [on Wednesday], we can pencil him in there," Gonzalez said.

When asked on whether not Santana will be limited at all, Gonzalez replied, "No not at all, we want to see what he's got, if he's pitching good we'll keep him in there for a long time."

Debating hard about heading down tomorrow...this shuffling of the rotation bumped Teheran back to Friday. Guess this and Minor's projected return dates lines the rotation up as Minor, Santana, Teheran, Wood, Harang/Floyd come the end of the month if everyone pitches on as close to regular rest as possible before Minor's start if it falls on the 25th. That would give Santana and Wood 7 days between starts (Santana on 4/19 @NYM and 4/26 vs. CIN - Wood 4/22 vs. MIA and 4/29 @MIA), and Teheran 6 days between starts (4/21 vs. MIA and 4/27 vs. CIN), as they slot Minor in.

Would seem to me that the most optimum date for Minor's first start would be on the 26th (having Santana go on the 25th instead) - that would keep everyone closer to regular rest while allowing the lefties to be split up (Santana/Minor/Teheran/Wood). That would reduce Santana's gap between starts to a more sensible 6 days.

Fine with Santana coming back this early, but I hope we don't rush Minor/Floyd, especially considering how well the pitching is managing without them.

Definitely no need to rush Minor. He needs to be in our long term plans. I'm not as worried about Floyd honestly. As soon as he gets to 6 innnings two starts in a row then he needs to be brought up here.

Look what happened when we rushed Beachy.

The managing of the pitching, meanwhile, has left something to be desired.

With the recent epidemic of pitching injuries I just don't see how the Braves can be criticized for improper management. NOBODY knows the right way to handle pitchers. Its a big problem that it going to have to be answered. All this innings limit & pitch count stuff seems to be crap. More pitchers are getting injured now than ever.

I hope Ervin...(your name's Ervin?) gives us a Javier Vazquez kinda year. After that, he can suck for the Yankees.

In all fairness, Javier could easily have replicated his season, if he'd remained a Brave. He was an NL kind of guy. That's not a regret on the trade though.

He would have at the least regressed in a more graceful manner.
