GDT#7, 4/8/'14: Braves (Harang) vs. Mutts (Colon) 7:05 PM EST [HOME OPENER]

I always thought clubhouse leadership was overrated to an extent. However look at our two oldest guys, Laird and BJ Upton (Santana isn't on the team yet).

Even when McCann wasn't hitting well, he still set the tone for the team and even Hudson after he was hurt.

Right now I think our leaders in spirit are Freeman and Laird... I hope Freeman really asserts himself as team leader and give the pep talks because the entire offense looks flat right now. I don't expect Laird to show much leadership on the field or off the field as he just strikes me as a goofball.

Heyward is too passive IMO, has to be Freddie.
 
This just isn't going to be a real good year. We couldn't hit crap with a plunger right now. We'll stay in the wc hunt but we are gonna need some luck to win it. Meanwhile Huddy is 2-0 and Harang is in our rotation.."
 
Braves are the second youngest team (average age) in baseball.

If we didn't have Laird we'd clearly be the youngest.

I expect this team to have ups and down bumps for immaturity reasons.

BJ is my boy? Wow, that is a new one, he sucks just as bad, including his brother, the only one that is seeing contact consistently of that bunch is Owl and the last two games he wass meh.

But Jason freaking stinks worst than anyone in the lineup and when the pressure is on, he wilts like a flower in heat.

Game on the line and he chokes again. That first fastball just below the belt is the one he hits 450 feet, just let it go. Even the announcers said, wow you can't let that pitch go by.

Another interesting note. This team has not scored a run prior to the fourth inning all year. Again, luckily we've gotten strong pitching, but we're not going to win many ball games having to play from behind.

Who is our hitting coach and why is he is being paid?
 
I wouldn't call Heyward the worst hitter on the team, but he certainly is sucking right now. He should have demolished 2-3 pitches in that last at bat, and he swung through a hanging slider to end yesterday's game. Since that homer in Milwaukee, he's done nothing. At least he knows how to run after a fly ball, though.

How is Harang a negative all the sudden... he pitched 6 innings, gave up 1 run and struck out 9 in his unfortunate loss tonight. He was lights out his first start, also... its not his fault we can't hit anything.
 
The point is we threw around all that money for next year, and yet we could not retain the leader this team needs...

On a positive note we need to pull those unis out once a month at least.

Play Schafer and hit him leadoff

Maybe that would help, at the very least please get BJ out of the 2 hole. It was never a good idea and Fredi looks really stupid trotting him out there day after day after day.

Schafer is not a better option, that said, BJ should be batting no higher than 7th.
