4/10 GDT: Reds game 1

I don't think that was a hit at Murphy, but a hit at using our best prospect to fill a position that we already had 2 good players at. WC is doing just fine offensively and defensively as a Brewer. Murphy is doing just fine as a Brave. The hate was the trade not the player. We really need some bats (LF/DH).. Heck, we really need pitching.. both those things could have been addressed by keeping Muller. instead we gave away assets for what appears to be a latteral move right now.

Totally valid.

But as a celebratory post after a nice win, I think it’s okay to celebrate the + 900 OPS we are getting out of SS and C this year.

Probably because he’s never seen breaking ball from that side. It’s the same reason you can have someone like Jonny Gomes that smashes LHP but barely make contact vs RHP.

No question about it - Thats why I think they may have experimented with it and realized its not a feasible option.

I'd be interested in seeing with Albies numbers are as a right handed hitter against good changeups. Not the same slope/trajectory of the break but directionally its the closest thing he would see.

Ozzie has clearly been bad for a while, but he still plays great defense and has an offensive pedigree. I think you give him more than 11 games before panicking. We are still at the point in a season where a 2 homer game can raise your OPS 200-300 points.

But at the very least he should be hitting lower in the lineup.

Who you moving up in the lineup? Haha, they all kinda suck

It’s not the direction. It’s the ball starting at your hips and breaking off the plate. You can’t mimic that LHP vs RHH.

Yea the bottom of the order is suspect for sure.

Mike and Travy will be back before the end of the month and hopefully someone in LF steps up (Hilliard and Rosario platoon seems passable for now). Once that stabilizes I imagine we will see Ozzie drop unless he heats up.

At the end of the day the Braves are playing at a 103 win pace with tons of injuries. Feels like that they are weathering the storm pretty well all things considered.

Think I would give Adrianza a start at ss or 2b tonight. Ozzie coming off an injury and don't need to run Arcia in the ground

Anderson looks likely for TJ per DOB
Tough timing for him. Still on the 40 so should collect okay money but won’t accrue service time (which I doubt matters for free agency but hurts him if he tries to be a 10 year guy) and misses on the 26 man roster paycheck.

No surprise there. Was fun while it lasted Ian.

What's a real timeline for Soroka to be ready? Are they looking at stuff or just the ability to go 5-6 innings?

I would say both, but I wouldn't think till June. He has to have some game time pitching behind him. That can't be replicated via BP sessions or simulated games.

Interesting whether the Braves ride out TJ rehab with Ian. On the surface, doesn’t seem like there’s any downside to keeping him around.

They won’t have to make the decision to offer him arbitration so he shouldn’t cost much. Will he even take up a 40 man spot since they can just IL him? Not sure how this all works if he’s not on the big league roster.

They could 60 day DL him to get his 40 man spot back immediately but he can't ride it out there in the offseason. They'll have to make a call if they think he's worth the roster spot.

Pretty sure players on the 40 man can be moved to the 60 Day IL.
