Not uncommon for young pitchers to lose a mile or two quickly in their careers.

He did have a bad game or two last season right after he became a starter. It's bound to happen.

I was just going to post this. If Strider can’t be effective without 98+ his contract likely won’t age well.

Of course there’s a chance he doesn’t lose velocity, but almost every pitcher does. It’s also possible he “learns how to pitch” as the velocity declines, but that’s not a given.

Strider entered the game with a 14+ k9, so not too worried.
