When the pen is healthy, he's what a 5-6th inning guy?

Iglesias
Minter
Mchugh
Anderson
Lee/jiminez

I don't mind that spot.. if the surgery is what has him as a slow start and he comes around strong, then I really like our healthy pen. Lee keeps impressing me with what looks to be average stuff.

We're going to have to make some tough choices when McHugh and Iglesias come back. My guess is we keep Tonkin because we need a long reliever. Yates and Luetge look to be the victims of the numbers crunch.

Any options? Maybe a phantom IL for someone?

Maybe? I don't know. Tonkin might have options but it would be a shame to move him because of his versatility.

I'd like to make dang sure yates is done before we release him. If it comes together for him, he's big time. I don't care about LL that much

That's not ideal unless it's with the understanding your auditioning 2 other guys for a couple weeks

I agree. But it does keep depth if someone goes down. Like the poster said he would probably be up most of the year as we phantom IL guys for rest. But he is one of our elites imo.

The sample size is small, no need to overreact, etc., but it does seem like there's a real chance Yates is just cooked. The numbers are terrible, he's 36 years old, and at some point you kind of have to stop chasing the two great seasons he had four to five years ago. The fastball velocity is still there (better than ever, in fact), if you're looking for optimism, but that's a pretty thin reed on which to hang your hopes.
