GDT: 4/19 Braves @ Padres: Get Away Day

I blame this loss on one simple fact : Acuna didn’t start the game properly.

This reminds me so much of third games of the series when we’d already won during the Bobby years. Our boys look hungover, packed, and ready to get home with a day off. And you know the interpreter is….

I think it’s good timing to have this off day right after a 1-0 loss though…. Give ‘em a day away from baseball and flush this one out of their system—- and look back on an 8-1 road trip as a huge success — and come back fresh for the champs in front of a packed out home crowd.

Feels like a loss like this one, ending a streak, could turn into 3 or 4 without that break …
Of course I don’t know what the hell I’m talking about but it sounds good ….

You can tell the team was really jetlagged on the west coast.

First game other than Riley's homer we didn't score lots of LOB.
Even the blowout game, felt more all or nothing and a lot of LOB.

Same story today, the big 3 pressing.

I think they come out focused Friday against the defending champs.

Frustrating loss but that is baseball. I'd have taken 2/3 any day if offered before the series.

Good to see Morton (I know he had some good defense behind him) do well vs a good line up. Pitchers did well.

I do not like that we are punting LF and DH. I am hopeful with Harris back that we can put Hilliard in LF and get a little better. I'm not going to go crazy on the guy, but he looks to me like he could be plus in LF and maybe have a 100-110 wrc+.

From the SSS I've seen, I think Hilliard might be a really good 4th OF for us. He is cheap and controlled and I think he'll be a good defender. Maybe there is more, but I don't want to get carried away.

There was an article where he said the Rockies tried to change his swing and approach to something that he never bought into. Coming to the Braves, we told him to do what makes him comfortable and he has produced so far. So it will be interesting to see what happens once Harris returns, because the kid deserves to be playing. I could see him getting more time in LF while Rosario/Ozuna get relegated to DH duty. Then once TdA returns, he could get a lot of at bats as DH.

EDIT: After looking at some of this stats, it's crazy that he has a 47% strike out rate, but has a 19% BB rate. Both are unsustainable i'd assume. He also has a BABIP of .688

At this point the Braves leaders in xwOBA (min 20 PAs):

1 Murphy, Sean .480
2 Acuña Jr., Ronald .431
3 Olson, Matt .390
4 Hilliard, Sam .358
5 Arcia, Orlando .351
6 Pillar, Kevin .350
7 Rosario, Eddie .345
8 d'Arnaud, Travis .339
9 Albies, Ozzie .334
10 Riley, Austin .332
11 Ozuna, Marcell .322
12 Grissom, Vaughn .319
13 Harris II, Michael .304

Assuming Ozuna is just always going to be an xwOBA underperformer (the "why" isn't as important as the fact itself), it looks like some form of Hilliard/Pillar platoon in LF is the play once everyone is healthy.

Some combination of Murphy/Rosario in the DH spot (let Murphy DH vs LHP so TDA can catch and Rosario can sit).

At some point Harris either needs to improve vs LHP, or some sort of platoon will be required late in the season and into the playoffs. That guy may be White.

Harris would have to be hitting .100 with a .400 OPS against lefties for Snit to ever realistically bench him against LHP.

And even then, that would still be a 55-45 Snit plays him scenario.
