GDT #8 4/9/'14 Braves(Santana) vs Mets(Wheeler) No BJ Simmons batting 2nd.

I dont mind Erv not pitching the 9th.

1st start of the year, dont want to overwork him.

Besides, if Walden cant get 3 outs with a 4-run lead, he has bigger problems.

It was the right move to take Ervin out. His spring training just started 3 weeks ago.

Christ you people will complain about everything. This isn't a video game where Santana's stamina started at 100 and was still 85 in the 8th.

Doesn't work like that. Just like OMG why did FREDI take out Hale.... yeah let's not forget dude has the flu since Milwaukee.

I'll add the little tidbit that Avilan also threw a bullpen this afternoon to test his hamstring. We have a good pen and I want us to still have a good pen come September and October. I want to see guys like Avilan and Carpenter pitching for us at the end of the season. I get mad when I see stuff like this happening.
 
People are really complaining after a win? Seriously?

Heyward ripped the tits off a really good pitcher. Better have Simmons in the 2 hole tomorrow.

Santana had three spring training starts and threw at least 93 pitches his last AAA start. He should've been fine to start the 9th as little trouble he was having and only 88 pitches.

I understand that.

But, it's no secret the BP has been struggling a bit. So why not chance the opportunity to give them a night off? At worst, have someone warming up in the pen just in case Santana runs into trouble. The bullpen WILL get that ass taxed in August/September, so try and give those guys every little break you can.
 
Glad we won. Santana did one hell of a job. Would love to see him have a contract year.

Fredi said that Walden needed work. But after two walks, no one in their right mind leaves him in. I have NO problem with how Fredi handled the ninth.

Santana just said he asked the pitch the 9th but Fredi wouldn't let him. He said he couldn't talk Fredi out of it and that given the way the game was going he wanted a shot at finishing it. Then added that's okay maybe next time.
