The Braves won 106 games in 1998.

You said Olson was going to have a 6 WAR season…

Olson now at 2.7 WAR as we approach the All Star break.

He's on pace to break the franchise single season HR record and lead the league in RBI.

Ks are down significantly and his average is up to what it was in his best years in Oakland.

I will admit that I did NOT have Ozzie Albies hitting 40 potatoes on my bingo card.

He must have been on a bulk this past offseason.

I guess the key to all this is as follows:

1. Have your owner create a real estate company to supplement payroll

2. Hire the best GM in the game.

3. Sign your young guys to insanely cheap deals before they turn into monsters

The Braves may seriously be looking at 4-5 world series titles.

This is the 1990s on steroids.

The decision to extend Olson is starting to redeem itself. Without the extension he would have been a free agent at the end of the season. He’s owed 6/132m. I think he beats that on the open market.

His and Riley’s extensions weren’t the absolute slam dunks that Acuna’s and Ozzie’s were, but at least we aren’t under water with either.

I agree he would beat that, but it doesn't mean it was the right decision. Just means the Braves took a chance before other teams got to. He could still nose dive as early as next year and we are stuck with a 132 million paper weight.

That said, I am not sure who we would get to play 1st, unless we got a 3rd baseman and moved Riley to first.

Theoretically any player can just nose dive after a great year…not sure that’s a solid argument to not sign someone to an extension.

Matt Chapman is a FA. Of course we would have been gambling that he made it to FA without an extension from Oakland or Toronto. I also think Chapman gets a 100 million contract anyways. But theoretically we could have let Olson walk, signed Chapman, and moved Riley to 1b.

You also have Muncy, Longoria, and Hoskins as decent low cost options.

I mean I agree, but the point was that you can't say an extention is redeeming itself based on the player potentially getting more money somewhere else. I think I was more just spewing samantics since I got what he was saying and I wasn't trying to be a dick.. and based on Carp's response to me, he got that I was just trying to extend the conversation on an off day. Probably could have word salad'ed it a bit more to be a more clear..

Olson also leads the league in AAR (Attractiveness Above Replacement). Dude is a literal stud....and is pretty good at hitting baseballs

I like the later options in these scenarios.

100%… which is true with every free agent (see Trae Turner, Xander Bogaerts, Justin Verlander, etc.)

I think the extension was questionable the moment it was signed (and I think it was largely an emotionally charged decision post Freddie). My point is that at least now it looks defensible.

my bad Chop.. got you and Carp mixed up. yeah, I am not a huge downer on the extention.. his swing is a bit scary for regression.. so long and loopy, but man it produces some pretty homers. Eventually AA is going to hit a whammy and we will all hate him for it. I mean even Ozuna and Rosey are making their contracts look better. I hated the Murphy deal and now I have crow feathers stuck in my teeth. Dude has the midas touch right now. And we all are reeping those rewards.. this team is built to kick ass!!!

Braves lead baseball in team OPS+ and ERA+

It's really incredible.

We are like the Dream Team. Gonna win 110+ games and a WS title this year and everyone comes back?

It's really historic.

RE: The Battery: a big new office building (already leased to Truist Securities) plus new condos are being built, which will only help future payrolls.

And we get out of the worst TV contract in the sport soon.

We have a chance to be the 1920s/30s New York Yankees.

I question the TV contract being a big deal at this point. Bally can barely pay most of the teams it owes right now.

The payroll for the 20/30's yankees was way to low. We would become the Okland A's at that level.
