Glad to finally get a home series vs. STL on a weekend. A couple of friends and I used to go to STL to watch that series every year. We have been wanting to repeat this at Truist for about five years now.

So what are the odds the Angels trade Ohtani? Not sure if I see it, but the Angels apparently aren’t ruling it out

They want a ton for him, rightfully so. But who is trading multiple top prospects for half a season of him? Still say he wont get dealt but it just takes one team.

Agreed. It would almost have to be a team who’s confident they keep him - so LAD or NYY makes sense. Otherwise, the buying team better be sure they win the WS lol

I'm not even sure the Dodgers would. They'd take their chances in the winter. They'll be pretty active at the deadline, so i'm not sure they'll push all their chips in for Ohtani. If you win a ring, it is worth it for sure.

I still have a feeling that Ohtani stays with LAA at the deadline. Sounds like their GM has his hands tied by the owner. Of course he is going to do his due diligence to get all offers he can to bring to the owner, but Moreno is just an absolute dumpster fire.

LAA fans will be pissed when Ohtani walks this offseason and all they get is a comp pick.

I could be wrong but didn't they also acquire Betts with like half a season or one year remaining before signing him to an extent?

They extended Mookie before the season. It was one year and other than Verdugo, they didnt trade that much for him.

Dodgers have no qualms with mid season rentals. They did it with Machado and Scherzer

Ohtani would cost alot more than both of them but this is fair. I dont think they'd pay the price but they do have the prospect capital for it.

I mean you are getting the best hitter in baseball currently and a pitcher that's been worth 2.5 bWAR so far. Rental or not, that's pretty significant value you're getting back.

For a player who is probably going to get 500M+ on the open market. You better win the WS, b/c you dont get a comp pick back if/when he walks.

I could only see an Ohtani trade if the Angels have given up on trying to sign him and the other team thinks they can increase their chances to sign him by trading for him and having that exclusive negotiating window. There will probably be a request to talk to Ohtani's agent to see if they are atleast willing to talk during that time before making the trade which the Angels might take issue with. The Dodgers are the only team that I think has a non zero number chance of trading for him. For the Angels Ohtani is a huge draw for the team. Trading him basically tells your fans the team is punting the season... and thats bad for sales. In a world where third place teams can get to the World Series you can always sell hopeium as long as theres a mathematical chance.
