Trade deadline thread

A lot of prospect resources went into building the core and people can (and do) argue about that, but we just don't have the prospect capital to make a huge deadline upgrade as a result. The last few drafts have produced some big-time contributors, but there's not that much depth and some of our higher picks are either too far away and/or not performing particularly well to merit interest. Conversations with trade partners probably start with Smith-Shawver and given long-term rotation questions, my guess is Anthopoulos would have to be entirely bowled over to include him in any deal.

Elder, AJSS, Grissom, and a low level guy for Cease who says no?

Cease is a beast and has 3 years of control left. He’s a TOR starter so he’ll cost more than Elder. Elder, Grissom, and AJSS would probably get it done and I’d actually do it. Cease would replace Elder and AJSS is something to dream on but Grissom has no place here.

I know we have all mentioned moving Elder, but I still feel like we'd need to add another starter on top of that. It would leave us still exposed if Fried, Morton, or Strider underperform or get hurt going into the playoffs.

This is a trade I could actually get behind. 2 more years of Cease. Local boy that we could also attempt to sign to an extension to buyout a couple years of FA.

For the Sox it's a good mix of quality and upside.

We have enough fodder we need an impact starter and that’s Cease. Cease and Strider back to back would be electric.

I think it’s fair for both sides. So that means it’d never happen lol. But this does seem like an AA type of move. Getting a middle of the road starter doesn’t move the needle enough.

You know the Braves will end up doing something and it won't even be mentioned here. Most of AA's moves come out of nowhere. Who saw Iglesias coming last year? Or three OF's the year before? All of them had pretty cheaply too.

Of course we need a ToR type pitcher, but by trading Elder, we'd also have to get a backend starter as well.

Cease > Elder. I know we’d like to have another starter but more than likely we won’t spend big on a rental like Snell or Stroman that’s just not AA’s style. If we can upgrade one of the rotation spots we have now that’s best case. If Fried comes back a rotation of Cease, Strider, Fried in a 3 game series is a lot better than having Elder in it.

We need to pump the breaks on the Cease as a bonified ace. Dude had one great season with a surpressed Babip and 3 MOR seasons. He is a 3.5-4 XFip pitcher and if his control drops he is worse. I like the kid and think he is a good rotation fit.. but I am not willing to bet the farm he is going to anchor our staff like Strider can. By no means am I saying Elder is better.. but 3 xtra seasons of Elder could easily make up the gap in talent level.

Braves will get the starting pitcher on the whatever team values Grissom the most. Hopefully that team is Seattle and we can pluck away one of their pitchers

Pretty underwhelming return for the Sox. A FV 45 pitcher (Nastrini), a reliever that's not even ranked on their prospect list (Leasure), and a 32 year old reserve outfielder. Nastrini is supposed to have good stuff but he can't locate his pitches and hasn't had great results to date.

Kirby and Gilbert would be really expensive, past what we can afford without making this team worse. I’m curious about Bryce Miller though. He has the big spin riding fastball that the Braves covet. Wasn’t a super highly regarded prospect like Kirby and Gilbert were, but I still like Miller a lot.

I don’t think Grissom by himself would be valuable enough to get Miller, but maybe we could make something work if they like Grissom as the main piece.
