The Biden Presidency

If the white house is asking to censor true information, how do you feel about that?

That's an easy call. If the White House knows something to be true and tries to suppress it then that's obviously wrong.

There are exceptions such as information about an ongoing military operation that could potentially jeopardize that operation. But we all understand that. I would hope.

I'll also make the observation that political spinning is something that long predates the internet and social media. It is done by the White House. Done by politicians at all levels. It is part of the ecosystem in a sense.

well welcome to a White House who embraced "obviously wrong"

sorry you fell for Pravda

We have towering interests in the stability of Europe. Allowing Putin to succeed would be an enormously destabilizing thing. It would have repercussions that would very much be against our national interest. So I think we should be providing Ukraine with much more military assistance in terms of quantity and lethality.

With respect to social media censorship, I think if a company has a policy that allows external input into its moderating decisions there is a role for government. The company should be able to say no thank you without being threatened or sanctioned. But if it is their policy to seek out and welcome external input then yes I would want the government to make that contribution, even recognizing that in some cases I might not agree with it. It is not a bad use of our tax dollars to have government help to contribute to getting better information out there.

I'm sorry, but that is just an awful opinion. The act of government in censoring social media is 100% a violation of our 1st Amendment rights, and if the DOJ weren't acting like an errand boy for the current administration, they would prosecute everyone associated with it.

I guess we could add another indictment for Trump since he told them to censor posts he didnt like. What charges do you think would be appropriate.

Eh. I read that article a while back. FB has to make these calls on a continual basis. There will be some we all take exception to and some they themselves will second guess themselves on. I'm ok with the president making the observation that some of the content posted there has contributed to people dying. Happens to be true. I'm sorry if that makes Nick Clegg and other FB executives feel "pressure." It must be an awful feeling.

Many of the wrong policies that Federal govt and states issued during COVID (such as closing schools), has resulted in higher suicides rates and social disorders as well. Yet I never saw you have a problem with the Government's decision to do that.

You can't pick and choose free speech.

You act like I'm a Trump supporter, when clearly I've stated I am not.

But I'll play. Show me your work. And if it did happen, let's see where they ACTUALLY censored social media posts after Trump told them to, because that would be the actual crime.

Then let me rephrase this. What charge do you think its appropriate for whoever you think should be charged. I dont think you understand the emergency powers the government gives itself in times of emergency or in regards to public safety. Any court is going to side with the government on a case of the government asking a social media company to censor something for public health/safety. The standard isnt are they right, the standard is do they believe they are right. And this comes from many years of studying policing in this country.

1. He requested Tweets directly about him to be removed. Many of which, like Teigen's violated Twitters Terms of Service. Not sure how that is censorship, but whatever.
.
2. It's strange you would still post this story from February of this year when since then ACTUAL email proof has been provided proving that parts of this story are false or misleading. We have irrefutable evidence that Biden White House officials pressured Twitter to censor information.

Pretty sure misinformation is against the ToS of the social media companies.

Where was the misinformation? There must be actual evidence to the contrary to be misinformation.

The misinformation was things like:

1. The virus came from a bat
2. Masks work
3. Getting the vaccine will stop you from getting the virus

And that was 90% of covid discourse on Twitter. Was anyone ever banned for spreading such misinformation?

Not a good week for Biden and the left here. Lot of people would benefit from some self reflection and a little humility!

I'd rather there be no self-reflection for the dogmatic ones.

So much of their support has been peeled off since 2016. The steals of the past couple of years have masked that.

Let me put this in terms of police. If a cop stops you because he believes your tail light is out and find crack in your car but your tail light was never out the courts rule that the stop is still legal because the cop believed he had probable cause to stop you and you wont get the crack possession charge dismissed. Beyond that I havent seen anything that showed a threat to social media if they didnt censor something about covid. Just "hey we believe this is misinformation and violates your ToS, we would appreciate if you would enforce your ToS"

Kind of weird considering Republicans front runner will die in prison if Republicans dont win in 2024 to pardon him. But yeah, bad week for Dems.
