Trade deadline thread

Joe Musgrove is being shut down with shoulder inflammation.

Like the Angels, the Padres were another stupid team at the deadline who should've sold.

Braves will never sign Ohtani or Soto, but… if we were to go crazy and sign someone I think Soto makes some sense given he and Acuna are literally best friends and the LF fit is perfect.

But in reality the Braves will be smart and save that money for pitching.

Braves do not typically pay for pitching. Was the thesis behind rebuild.

While that braintrust is gone the institutional memory remains and AA has not shown much of a willingness to get into those waters.

AA has shown willingness to spend on big one year deals for pitchers.

Keuchel 2019
Hamels 2020 (didn't work out)
Morton 2021 has been re-upped on basically the same 1 year plus option deal since then.

I would imagine when Morton is gone, AA will look for the next vet to offer a one year high AAV deal to.

He never saw a one year deal he didn't like, but we aren't taking about top of the market Options.

I like one year deals myself.

I do not see Atlanta signing an ace type or best on market type to a long deal.

I don't recall JS ever doing any one year deals like that for pitchers.

Wren did it once with Ervin Santana. Santana pitched good but we didn't make the playoffs and it cost FW his job.

I'll wager he doesn't do a long term market rate deal for a high end free agent pitcher.

I can see a 1/1 or a high 1 year deal. Someone always gets left out of the shuffle in the FA market. I agree, i'd be surprised if he gave a starter a 4+ year deal.
