GDT 8/5/23: Braves @ Cubs - Respect your Elder

Elder isn’t suddenly mediocre because of this start. He has been mediocre the entire season, and this game the luck is bad. Other games the luck has been better. It he’s been the same mediocre guy the entire time, which I said a thousand times.

I’m not sure where this idea that a team only needs 3 SPs in the playoffs came from. I’m not sure where the idea that Elder is someone a team wants pitching in the playoffs.

AA should have have acquired one of the many SPs we were discussing for weeks.

It’s funny how with our offense, being down four or five runs doesn’t bother me one bit. I used to think games like this were over- and they usually were.
Now I’m like: you think that lead is safe ? Hahaha ..

Elder did have two good starts against Milwaukee, but the Brewers offense isn't good. With this start, and the two starts before the Milwaukee series' (Tampa, Arizona), he has been shelled in the last 3 games he pitched against a decent offense.

Now, Elder will probably look good against Pittsburgh in his next start -- the worst offense in the NL.

To a certain point yes. But it shouldn't come down to having to score 10 runs to overcome mediocre pitching.
