GDT 8:13-Chirinos leads the Sunday Seven Train Silencing

Why haven't they DFA Cheerios? Man there are better options in the Minors. Soroka, AJSS and Winans.

I had heard Braves won’t bring back Soroka until Sept as they gain a year if he stays down until then.
I’d bet Winans will get his next start with Soroka getting them in September once Winans gets lit up which he will since he’s not much different stuff wise then Mchugh imo

I was wondering if this was a control issue. Wonder how Soroka feels about it. I mean he basically collected 3 million a year for doing nothing for the team the last 2 plus years.. So giving us another year of arb only seems fair.

I don’t see what the value of gaming Soroka’s service time to gain a year. At this point, he’s a prime candidate to get non-tendered.

I doubt he is going to be non tendered... There is still way too much to dream on and enough room and garbage on the 40 to never have to do that.

I believe control for sure had something to do with how they’ve sent him up and down but I still believe he will be an important rotation member next season.
His stuff is still good, he just struggles with command but his last few AAA outings give me hope he’s getting it back.
I still say after a two year layoff that this type of season was to be expected and won’t give up on him until I see a larger sample size at the major league level.

I mean, his stuff was not that great this year, but I get what you are saying.. He will not be non tendered. Not after waiting 2 years for him to come back.. no way.

Given the number of starters we've used this year I doubt AA is non-tendering anyone.
You’re probably right but Soroka likely gets $3-4m in arbitration which is a lot for minor league depth.

I get that the Braves have invested a lot in his recovery, but he’s looked pretty bad and there isn’t precedence to dream on the 2019 Soroka ever coming back. But that’s likely not a decision the team has to make yet.

The game has started and Cheerios is still on the roster. There's no reason to keep him on the roster unless he's going to make his next start. If we were going to option or DFA him you'd do it before tonight's game and bring someone up.

The longer this lasts the more I think I'm right. AA thinks there's something to Cheerios that the Braves can make into a useful piece. There's no reason to keep running him out there with other options out there unless AA thinks there's something there. AA is a great GM but like most highly intelligent people, he sometimes struggles admitting a mistake and that maybe he wasn't as clever as he thought.

…or maybe he is just a little more patient than we are.

Cheerios doesn't need patience. He's pitched 81 innings this year and has been one of the worst pitchers in baseball in pretty much every conceivable metric. Look at his Baseball Savant page. It's the stuff of nightmares.
