Murphy War Crimes

ATL, I am not going to say you are wrong or stupid for your concern, but I don't agree completely with you. I think Twit is making bad decision right now... well all the time.. but I still hope and pray, he won't have that level of control come Oct. Having Murphy rested is not a bad thing... Why AA is not stepping in to correct this right now.

I think if you polled the board 99% would say batting Murphy 7th and TDA 5th is stupid (based off the information available to us). With that said, I think the majority of people really like the current catcher time share and even bigger majority aren’t worried with how the playoff lineups will be managed. I think it’s more likely you’ll see D’Arnaud or Murphy DH instead of Ozuna than it is you’ll see Murphy get a day off in the postseason.

The Braves have the luxury of not having to play Murphy everyday. The division and first round bye are locks. Batting him 7th is stupid but alternating everyday in the dog day of summer is not an issue for me.

Exactly. It would be actually stupid to be playing him 5 out of 7 games right now. There is zero need to do that. So why not get him plenty of rest, especially when it’s really hot?

I easily can see this viewpoint….. can our manager when it comes to October baseball? That is my concern.

That's a good thing because murphy is now permanently hitting 7.

I'm past the point of focusing on this issue but on a separate note, even though batting order not really that big of a deal, how stupid can one be to think Murphy should be hitting 7th behind Ozuna and Rosario? Just pretty shocking that his conclusion on a two week slump is Murphy should hit 7th. Its worse that TD has been in a worse slump but Snit logic deems we are better with TD 5th.

I've reached a new low in opinion of Snit. Have gone from thinking he is old school to just thinking he is actually dumb when it comes to baseball decisions

Man if snit is that dumb, how many games would we have won with a smart manager and FO? 125?

Everyone relax.

Twit is THAT dumb.. there is zero doubt in my mind.. but AA built a supremely talented roster that can over come that. In the playoffs, you need a smarter manager than we have to better our chances.. I know we already won one under twit and have a really, really good chance to win another... but that will not be because Twit is a genius who pushes all the right buttons.. it will be because our insanely good athletes will be better than the other teams... I think that is what makes the Dodger$ scary... Roberts is full analytics and does a good job getting players involved.

Again, Murph batting 7th.. probably not going to make a hill of beans.. even in the playoffs. but Murph splitting time with TDA in the playoffs.. yeah that is firable imo..

It is what it is. No point bitching about it.

I agree with you- you lean Murphy heavily because of his defense. TDA can’t throw out my great aunt right now.

I remember when there was like 2 weeks 20 years ago when we all agreed batting order doesn't matter. It was a simpler time.

It's possible to both acknowledge that batting order doesn't matter in any meaningful sense (assuming you're not doing something galactically stupid like hitting your pitcher leadoff in a league where pitchers hit) and say that specific lineup decisions are both sub-optimal (costing your team fractions of a run is not what you want to do as a manager) and reflect a poor thought process. Whether Murphy hits fifth or seventh is basically irrelevant, but it is marginally worse for the team that Murphy is hitting seventh, and it provides some insight into how Snitker (or Snitker + the front office) approaches these issues.

I’m of the opinion that people whose job it is to know stats know the stats, so while it seems odd that Murphy is hitting 7th it’s okay to assume there’s probably an explanation that’s only privy to the team itself.

Here’s an example.

Murphy went through a period where he was really struggling and hitting into a lot of double plays and teams walking Olson intentionally. Murphy makes a comment that he’s feeling frustrated that he’s letting the team down, so Snit decides he’s going to take some pressure off him by hitting him lower in the order.

Know I said I was done but it just hit me that ironically I actually think we will get an objective answer on if Snit believes TD is our new starting catcher. As I've said - I already have my questions given TD is starting the first game of each most recent series and hits 5th vs. Murphy hitting 7th.

Presumably TD is going to play tonight and play 2 of 3 in the Yankees series (despite every game being a night game). We then have a day off tomorrow and play a standard three game series on Friday. If TD is in the line-up Friday, at that point he would just objectively be our new starting catcher.

It would be his 3rd start in 4 games and 3rd straight series starting the first game

TDA is playing tonight and hitting 7th.. not sure your logic is there anymore. I think it is twit just putting guys where ever and going with it. Murph hitting 5th or 7th is meaningless. It will probably help one game and back fire another..

I'm relieved to see this issue is off the table on TD hitting above where Murphy would hit

I would say that if TD starts Friday after starting Monday and Wednesday and an off-day Thursday, he is our starting catcher. But I'm strongly assuming Murphy is in the line-up Friday, in which case I can let it rest that it truly is now just an alternating every game
