Trump Indictment Watch

We have the full trial schedule from Chutkan

Oct. 9: Pretrial motions
Dec. 4: 404b evidence
Dec. 11: Disclosure of expert witnesses
Dec. 18: Disclosure of exhibits
Dec. 27: Motions in limine
Jan. 15: Proposed voir dire questions/jury instructions
Mar. 4: Jury selection

The wheels of justice may grind slowly, but they also grind surely.

LAURO: "We will certainly abide by your honor's ruling, as we must. We will not be able to provide adequate representation ... the trial date will deny President Trump the opportunity to have effective assistance of counsel."

Dean Smith probably felt the same way when the shot clock was introduced to college basketball.

Just heard on Brett baier that jack smith wanted January 2024 and trump wanted April 2026. The compromise was February 2024. It does seem the judge is biased

With that logic Trump's team should've proposed April 2036 to make the judge seem even more biased.

The April 2026 date was not a serious, "good faith" proposal and the judge knew it.

March 4 is more than six months from now. The facts of the case are well known. To the extent there is a scandal it is that it took so long for charges to be brought against very poorly chosen one. He should have been locked up a long time ago.

How long do cases like this usually take to come to trial ?

This is a unique case but Manafort was indicted in October and went to trial in July for conspiracy against the US. This isnt a case where Trumps lawyers necessarily need a lot of time for discovery and to go over evidence. Their defense is going to be legal theories not evidence based. Much of the discovery are things Trump and his lawyers have already been in possession of like his twatter posts. Plus they knew this investigation was going on for months. Trumps lawyers have said they plan need time to file a bunch of frivolous motions that have no chance of succeeding Hard for me to have any sympathy for lack of tune to prepare when they will be spending large portions of time on motions that pander to his base and Trumps ego that have no chance of being accepted by the Judge. You would think an innocent person would want their name cleared before the election. I dont know if its proper for a Judge to take Trumps statements that he would pardon himself into consideration but I would think a person indicted for trying to rig an election shouldnt be allowed to try to delay a trial until they can possibly pardon themselves. I dont know that Trump could, but if he could waive the right to pardon himself/use the office of the Presidency to obstruct the case that would go a long way to legitimize his claims of extending the trial date. Right now any extension beyond the election should be assumed that it would never take place. And I think the Judge should take that into consideration. Not sure of the properness of it.

Heres an update for Tapate since he asked me to keep him updated and I know he doesnt follow the news.

October 2nd - NY AG lawsuit for fraud where Trump could be fined 250 million and barred from doing business in NY

October 23rd - Trial date for Keneth Chesebro and other co-conspirators who asked for a speedy trial. Might not all be exactly the 23rd for all 3 but should be close.

January 15th - E Jean Carrolls defamation lawsuit trial. This is from when Trump was President. He delayed the trial through appeals claiming defaming people was a part Presidential duties. He defamed her after leaving office which is what the first suit handled.

March 4th - Jack Smith's DC case around January 6th.

March 25th - Criminal trial for falsifying buisness records to hide his hush money payments to Stormy Daniels.

May 20th - Documents case trial

TBD - Atleast one more trial for Trumps RICO charges in Georgia.

There may be another set of indictments concerning the way they grifted and used donor money.

I know some people here like to mock when people call Trump dangerous but when you look at his posts and behavior he is constantly trying to expand the bounds of what is legal/okay. I saw a line in a recent social media post he often repeats which is that Republicans are afraid to fight fire with fire. Now when you take that with what he is constantly accusing others of doing to him then I have to ask what exactly does fighting fire with fire mean to him. He has gaslit so many of his supporters to believe that the left is doing all these horrible things to Trump that I dont know what he could do that would be too far or unacceptable to them. So far theres been enough checks and balances in the system to keep Trump moderately in line. The other part of this is his constant quest to get unquestioning supporters in powers of position. He feuded with both his AG's for not doing exactly as he wanted. Luckily Trump is a moron and can be won over with some ass kissing and hired a bunch of people who eventually told him no at some point. Which is why the positions were almost all revolving doors. Trump is constantly trying to consolidate power in the GOP. He has gaslit his fans to go after anyone who even lightly criticizes him. What happens if Trump actually gets crazy people like Sydney Powell in an AG position or enough power to actually do the crazy **** he wants to do. Even if he wins in 2024 there will still be 2028. This is the kind of guy so stupid he could pardon himself for the documents then do it again when he leaves office. In fact I almost guarantee he would. So he will need a friendly replacement come 2028. We all know he will claim fraud in any election result he doesnt like. So we could be doing this all over again.

When looking at the timelines laid out.... it appears the Dem strategy is to just occupy him totally and bleed his funds dry.

Probably a good strategy honestly.

Trumps lawyers cited Powell v Alabama as a comparison to Trumps case when asking for their preferred trial date. Powell v Alabama was 9 black kids accused of raping two white women that were given 1 day trials with lawyers who never even met with them and just attended the trials. They compared this to a self professed billionaire who can afford an army of lawyers. And they used this case with a black Judge. No wonder they lost.

It is self-evident that the game plan is to lose in the courtroom and somehow prevail politically. A combination of dumb and desperate. There is no endgame. All reasonable scenarios end with him being locked up. The only question is how much more damage he does to his own party and supporters and the country on his way to jail.
