GDT 9/1/23: Braves @ Dodgers - Rosters Expand

Man.., I don’t envy AA. Fried is clearly what we need but that elbow might be a ticking time bomb. Damned if you, damned if you don’t

Yeah I completely get it if he doesn’t and it’s probably the “right” move. But this years team is very likely the best team we will have for the next five years. Without him it’s just not the same threat in a playoff series. I suspect we will have more 1-2 year just below the top tier starting pitchers the next few years rotating.

Wonder if AA will triple down on this core and keep Fried. Sadly I think he’s priced out of our range. 7 years 210-240 has to be what’s offered to him right?

Absolutely no way we should give Fried anlong term deal like that unless he is willing to take a massive discount. Good pitcher but I have no faith in his health long term. Take the comp draft pick and spend elsewhere.

Fried wouldn’t take it but 4-5 years is the most I’d go at around 25-27 per and I’d be nervous at that. We will no doubt need to a get another top starter in the next year. I think he’ll get one this offseason so his back isn’t to the wall next year.

Just gotta hope Waldrep's the real deal. I dont think it's the right business move to pay Fried that much. Pitchers on those long contracts generally dont turn into good contracts.

When Morton leaves after next year most likely, that frees up about 20 million. If AA can't find his 1 and 1 (1year-option) deal for an older quality veteran pitcher, would you give Fried 27-30 million AAV? Fried is making 13.5 this year. That would be 14-17 million of Morton's money going to Fried to stay.
