Minor League Thread

Kuehler in two starts since being drafted:

7.0 IP
1H
4BB
0R
8K

He's faced 26 hitters and only three balls hit out of the infield.

I'd make some comment about the lack of position player talent in the minors, but when you have seven positions at the big league level signed through the heat death of the universe, it's hard to get too worked up over that.

Between AJSS, Waldrep, Schwellenbach, Richie, and a couple of others the future looks pretty bright again on the minor league front. If we can get a couple of offensive guys mixed in there we’ll be set up again.

How dare you leave out Murphy and his ~40% K rate

Hackenburg promoted to Double A. Obviously he’s thrown well, but I’d imagine this is more because Low and High A ball ends on Sunday and this will keep his season going for another couple outings.

Jhoncarlos Lara dealing again. 4 IP, 10 Ks with 19 whiffs. Saw this on Twitter:

Lara leads the system in K/9 (12.42) and K% (32.4%) this season. Among MiLB pitchers with 70+ IP he ranks 20th and 23rd respectively out of 590

AA getting those replacement relievers ready for the few seasons. He acquires a Joe Jimenez in the offseason or a Pierce Johnson at the deadline, and then when Minty and co leave he just calls these guys up.

Lara struck out two more and then got pulled at 88 pitches. 4.2 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 12 K. One hit and walk came in the first inning, only one walk allowed after that.

20-year-old at High A, likely closing out a really strong year for him.

Damn that’s impressive. Almost all of his outs came via a K. Wow. How hard does he throw?

I wasn’t watching, but saw a few people on Twitter saying he sat 94-96. I believe he’s touched a little higher than that at times this year.

He’s listed as 6-3, 190. Pretty easy to imagine him getting stronger as he gets older, too.

True. He definitely has the frame.

Kiley McDaniel today ranked the teams with the best cores under control for the next two years. The Braves were obviously number one, but he had this interesting tidbit in at the end:

“Keep an eye on Waldrep, the Braves' first-round pick in July, to potentially get a look this fall as a dangerous weapon out of the bullpen with his mesmerizing knuckle splitter.”
