GDT 9/18/23: Braves vs Philthies - Getting Wright with Acuña Back

Its a joke. Murphy literally is not allowed to play two games in a row. Idk how the heck we reached this point, but its a joke

If one of our most critical players for the playoffs is struggling, I just can't comprehend how we are not prioritizing getting him going. Even I'll admit murphy is cold but it speaks to him needing these reps asap to get going

Can we stop this god awful play?? Can we also just give Vines and Winans the extra starts? Shut Wright down and I don't want so see Shuster or Dodd again

TDA is even worse. So, why not just start the superior catcher between the two.

I just named you three teams in the last six years to make it to the World Series after a bad September. You think making it there but not winning it can magically be chalked up to how they played heading in? Come on.

If momentum exists at all, it only matters for the first round.

I hate to nitpick, but you named 2 teams from the last 6 years...and 2 from the early 2000s. I can point to the last 7 World Series champs.

Momentum definitely exists, because it is a direct reflection of human emotion. However, how long it lasts and what causes it to turn may be difficult to measure. Especially in a game like baseball, where it's so much about individual matchups, it's easy to see FUD spreading when a few guys start struggling collectively, and everyone putting extra pressure on themselves.
Where I agree with you is that September record is probably not a good gauge, and would affect the first round only. The effect may not be measurable at all, because there's no good gauge for what goes on in the players' heads.

Maybe "state of mind" is a better term for what I mean than "momentum". A team better be in a good state of mind when the playoffs start, but it's a reflection of more things than just the most recent record.

September play does not matter. For the playoffs, you mostly just want to be healthy. If we struggle in the playoffs in the 1st round again, it will have zilch to do with how we played in September. For reference, we've played very well in Sept the last 5 years. We had a 1st round exit in 3 of those seasons.

Would I rather they win these games? Sure. But also, we're .500 in September currently. It isn't like we're 5-13 or something. Just because we aren't maintaining a pace of 108 wins anymore doesn't mean we are playing poorly.
