2023 Misc Braves Talk

Pierce Johnson since joining the Braves: 22.2 IP, 16 hits, 2 ER, 5 walks, 29 Ks. He may end up being the key man out of the bullpen in October.

We think AA is going to try and upgrade SS this off-season? I think he’ll put out feelers on who’s available. Arcia is solid but may as well try and improve.

Honestly think SS is way down on the list of where we add.

Morton - club option
Rosario - club option
McHugh - club option
Johnson - free agent
Yates - club option
Pillar - free agent
Jimenez - free agent
Hand - mutual option
Chavez - free agent

The pen will probably be his biggest area of focus, followed by the rotation, followed by LF

Of course I did leave out names like Ian Anderson, Tyler Matzek, and Huascar Ynoa who were injured this year and may be back

I doubt it. Between Arcia and Lopez, I think SS is in good hands. Neither one are world beaters, but they are starter quality.

SP and BP seem like the most likely areas of improvement. We could move on from Charlie or he may just decide to retire. I sort of doubt we retain Soroka at this point. Wright shouldn't be automatically assumed either. So our pitching depth behind Fried and Strider is a little suspect. I imagine AA will be looking for another pitcher willing to take a high AAV on a short term deal. Guys like Stroman, Sonny Gray, Aaron Nola, and Jordan Montgomery fit that bill. The only issue with that is that pitching will likely be a premium this off-season with the projected top 2 starters already being off the market (Ohtani with TJS and Urias being a woman beater). Snell will probably land a deal in excess of 150 million now.

Matzek prob won't be throwing high 90s anymore, but I think they'll give him every opportunity to make it work before cutting bait.

The Soroka saga will be interesting to watch. I would have never thought they might non tender him, but at this point I just don't know. I still want to dream on him and keep him, but I am a fan and would probably be the wrong move.

Unless they have to have that money to better allocate elsewhere, I think they tender him—but a lot probably rides on internal evaluations of progress to which we’re not privy.

doubt the 3 million will be a factor.. it will be roster spot if anything.

I’d let McHugh walk. Rosario (if we can’t get a bigger upgrade), Chavez, Johnson, Yates, and JJ would come back and the others could walk and use the money on a better starter upgrade. I wouldn’t trade Waldrep but I’d see what Cease would cost. That’d take care of the rotation and then I’d check in on Hader. AA doesn’t mind spending on the bullpen.

Did anybody see the Strider interview where they asked him about his hot take on baseball and he said he didn’t think fans should be in the stadium and to just be quiet bc they didn’t need all the cheering?

To me it looks like an obvious attempt at joking and being sarcastic…

Doesn’t seem like he was joking. He said it’s cool to be up top but not around the dugout and to be quiet. I hope he was joking bc with no fans he’s out of a job.

Lol… whatever man… seems like an obvious poor attempt at a joke. To me it is perfectly clear it was sarcasm…
