A few thoughts:
Lay-off - can't be a coincidence seeing elite teams not only lose, but largely get dominated. This is having an impact . At the very least, WC teams just need to literally start like the day after the season ends and then get no rest between games.
Murphy - I can't help but think its ironic that all of a sudden the entire world is saying the lay-off impacted timing for all of these teams, and yet no one on the Braves thought it might be an issue having Murphy go from playing mostly every day, to not being able to play more than 1 in a row, and 2 max. Just amuses me - the entire fan base, and most of MLB is now calling-out the lay-off, and yet we arguably self destructed our catcher, by never giving him a chance to come out of his slump. At the very least, why not have played him most of every day for a 2 week stretch to just figure out if he actually was going to just perpetually continue to suck or just needed reps to get out of it
Rotation - albeit the lay-off is frustrating, we also can't ignore that the way the days were set-up, the Braves got to start their ace in 2 of 4 games. The Phillies had to start their three starter in 2 of 4. That is a MAJOR MAJOR advantage for us, and yet we still got beat in 3 of 4. You can argue the days off set-up favors us because with less days off, we'd have had another bullpen game in game 4. In that sense, extremely disappointing
Offense - this series still comes down to losing 3-0 and 3-1 vs. their three starter. I read we had 4 barrels all series. How many barrels did we average per game this year? This wasn't just the offense not scoring, something was seriously, seriously off. Only thing I can think of is the Phillies advanced scouting is next level on devising game plans in these short series? Its just so bizarre on the degree at which we got shut-down. All season long, even when we didn't score, this team hit the ball hard and barreled the ball. This series wasn't bad luck - we truly got uniquely shut down
Snitker - I still can't believe game 3. When you look back at this series, our pen largely shut them down. We had a 1-0 lead yesterday, in the 3rd inning. How was this not scripted. Between Iggy, Minter, Johnson, Jiminez, Yates and Hand, your telling me we couldn't figure out how to get 7 innings of scripted performance??
