Official 2023 Playoff Thread

Baseball has a problem that will be hard to fix. The playoffs have way too much dead time that allows fans to lose interest. They drag on like the NBA playoffs. It is a shame because it used to be a must see showcase.

Just my view from the cheap seats. There's a college football game almost every night and it's on almost every channel on Saturday. I think one of the reasons people have come to prefer football to baseball is that it is much easier to bet on and there's a lot of money riding on games. Baseball has to schedule around football (and scheduling around the pros wasn't that difficult until Thursday night games were added to the schedule for the NFL). For whatever reason, baseball has lost the casual fan to football. Baseball does a pretty good job of marketing locally, but it doesn't do that good a job marketing nationally.

Rangers are gonna win this. I suspect DIamondbacks to win game 5 then lose game 6.

Personally I was rooting for the Rangers, if the Braves don't win it all, I want a team who's never won it to win.

The blackout rules are a major part of the problem.

Where I live, I am blacked out from watching local broadcasts from four different teams, the closest of which is a 4 1/2 hour drive from me if traffic conditions are ideal. As a Braves fan with a satellite TV subscription and Extra Innings it doesn't really affect me (except that I have to watch Chip instead of the Braves crew six times per year), but for fans of those nearest teams who don't want to pay for a TV service it's a major impediment to fanhood.

It seems like MLB would want to develop fan bases in these regional areas rather than forcing them to watch only the national broadcasts (i.e. Yankees, Red Sox, etc). Kids who grow up watching a team convince their parents to plan vacations around going to watch that team in person, and turn into adults who take their kids to watch that team, and so on. It's much harder to do that, and to develop some sort of regional loyalty, if the teams they get to watch are an airplane ride or a 10+ hour drive away. I (and probably many others here) would not be a Braves fan without WTCG/WTBS/TBS games being aired nightly in my formative years. Today's kids don't have that option readily available unless their parents are willing to pay for a cable or satellite package or MLB.TV, and the latter doesn't even work if the team happens to be relatively nearby.

How much are you about to win?

Lol. I I only had like 12 or 15 bucks in my betting account so I think it is like 140. Now I have to decide if I want to play that with football or just cash out.

On another note. I figured this series was when the real dbags would show up.

Rangers winnig it aint that bad all things considered with how top teams got knocked out early. +165 RD was the 2nd best in the AL.

Congratulations Rangers. I can remember thinking when they signed both Semian and Seager to such lucrative deals that I thought they had overspent. Looks like I'm wrong. Good set of younger guys to go along with those two.

I guess one team from Arlington, Texas can win a championship…….

I know right.

Dallas sports is surprisingly in a good spot right now. Stars were in the conference championship last year. Mavs are 4-0 and have one of the best players in the league. Cowboys will make the playoffs and are always entertaining. Rangers won the WS.

Still can't believe the Braves let me down. Would have loved to go to a WS game this year.

Rangers are a worthy winner. Great team and great manager.

But man that World Series came and went like a fart in the night
