GDT #15, 4/17/'14: Braves (Wood) vs Philthies (Burnett); Gattis day off

Everyone will say I'm "second guessing", but I was telling my friend how dumb it was not to pinch hit for Wood after the lead off double. Give your team 3 chances to get the run in.

And bring in who, Carp?

If he gets the bunt down, the game is tied.

He was around 80-85 pitches through 7, it was the right move.

We would had a 2 run lead if the bear was unleashed in that spot.

pitching around howard was a mistake...he's a K waiting to happen.

Well JP isn't anything special. Get that run here.

I've just been following on Gameday. Couldn't figure out why Gonzalez left Wood out there. I'm with sturg33 on the fresh bullpen argument.

Sure. Or Avilan. Or Kimbrel. Or Walden.

Since when do we not trust our bullpen in close games? A fresh bullpen is almost always more effective than a starter in the 8th inning

Sure but not like his pitch-count was real high.

I would of gone Walden for the 8th if they hit for him.

I would be happy to leave Wood in if there was no scoring opportunity. But we had a great one and should have used Gattis

Execution of these type of things is crucial. Everything is magnified in the post season. It's stuff like today among other things why the Braves can't win.

Yep this is a typical Fredi loss. Our hottest hitter doesn't get a plate appearance in 1-0 game? That would be like not brining in Kimbrel to nail down a game in the playoffs...oh wait.
