Official 2024 Off-Season Thread!

The most likely outcome for Kelenic is he turns into something approximating Rosario/Verdugo/Kepler/Heyward. Obviously we all hope he turns into a 3-4 win guy who AA then extends for 6 years at a 20% discount, but that’s not the most likely outcome.

I don’t believe Kepler was ever available

Ok…congrats on the weakest counter in the history of the internet.

The overall point still stands. AA passed on the opportunity to grab a relatively sure thing in LF and took a gamble on Kelenic instead. Anyone claiming anything else is letting their homerism shine through.

You’re the same dude who bitched about Rosario incessantly for the past two years.

Again, this comment is not contrary to any point I’ve ever made. I was against giving him 2 years, and for picking up his option.

Has logically consistent thought died on this board? Or did it just take a break for the holidays?

Yet you grouped him into the “sure thing” category like he’s been anything but average exactly once in the past 4 years.

Again, your point doesn’t hold up logically, and in no way contradicts anything I’ve written.

I never said Rosario is going to be above average. “Sure thing” and “above average” are not the same concept. This is very basic reading comprehension, which I assume most adults possess.

Perhaps you should try reading what I’ve written more slowly? I suppose I can write the same thing for the 14th time:

I very clearly stated Rosario is more of a sure bet to be a mediocre strong side of a platoon. Nothing more. And I’ve also very clearly stated Kelenic is not a sure bet to even be that because he’s shown a history of being unplayable. Additionally, I’ve very clearly stated Kelenic has upside the other options don’t have, but that potential upside cost the Braves this additional risk other options didn’t have.

So….

Kelenic = more risky
Others = less risky

Finally, I have stated at least 6 times I like the chance they took on Kelenic. Me stating he is risky, and other options are less risky, doesn’t mean I hate the deal, hate Kelenic, hate the Braves, or hate AA. It means exactly what I stated: Kelenic is more risky than other options.

I hope that is written at a 4th grade level. Read it slowly at least 3 times, then count to 10 so it sinks in before countering with a statement that isn’t logically counter to mine.

I just ran these concepts past my 3rd grade niece. She understands one guy might be better, or might be worse, and is thus more risky. She understands claiming other guy are less risky is not equivalent to calling them better.

I’m confident adults can comprehend these ideas as well as a 3rd grader. She’s pretty smart, but I think you can do it if you concentrate very hard.

How can I comprehend what you wrote, when you can’t even do that? You mentioned Kepler as a potential target. Someone pointed out that Kepler wasn’t available, “oh, I never said he was available.” You mention Rosario like he was more of a sure thing than Kelenic, “oh, I never said Rosario was going to be above average.” Guess what? I never said you said that either. I said he’s been just average in a season only once in the last 4 years. That isn’t a sure bet for anything. I think you’re the one with reading comprehension issues, or you’re intentionally moving goalposts because you’re afraid that you’ve lost an argument. But it’s strange, because I don’t see anyone actually arguing with you.

I’m sure she can have an adult conversation better than you as well.

Who are you even arguing with, loser?

The Braves are indirectly paying roughly the same for Kelenic that they would have for the guys I mentioned. And I’m not sure where this narrative came from that he’s a better defender than that group of guys.

For 2024 that's true. But LF is hopefully no longer a revolving door which I think was the plan. Heyward or Verdugo for a year. Or the rosterbation for Kelenic for 5 years.

Exactly. The risk was worth it to potentially solve LF for the rest of the contention window. However, it was a risk that Kelenic is unplayable and they punted LF for 3-4 months and then have to fix it again.

What I’m really looking forward to is next August when Kelenic is in the middle of a 4 win season one of the usual suspects posting “yOu WanTed THem to GeT roSAariO instead Of KeLENiC derrrrpppp “

Literally no one accused you of saying that. Again, you’re arguing with no one.

Im expecting alot of action this coming week now that Ohtani is signed and Christmas is getting closer. Guys may be waiting on Yamamoto since he is the top pitcher available. Im betting he goes to the Dodgers also.
