Official 2024 Off-Season Thread!

I keep forgetting about Ynoa... very interested to see how he comes back and forget he's still only 25... if he can recapture some of that success he had before punching the wall, he could be a fun little weapon. Still can't count on him to be much of anything, though.

Let me throw out what I think is a perfect option for us. Clayton Kershaw. He doesnt sound like he is married to the Dodgers anymore and I think if he was really a priority for them he would be signed already. They seem to be the favorites for Yamamoto combined with Ohtani may be a billion dollar commitment for 2 pitchers. Kershaw had shoulder surgery but should be ready to go mid season. Shoulder surgery is always a red flag but I dont doubt Kershaw can perform. He has either been great or not pitching due to injury. He has durability concerns even without the shoulder but he has never really missed a prolong period of time. He has 20+ starts with 120+ IP every year except the Covid year. I dont know if he lives in LA or Texas where he is from and might prefer a team closer to those locations but we should be able to sell him on a legitimate chance to win a championship. He doesnt have the best track record in the playoffs but I dont give two ****s about that, I will take my chances with him as a game 3 starter. He will play next year at 36 years old. I think he may only take a 1 year deal because of missing the first half. I would estimate something like 1 year 15 million. Beyond that it might give us an advantage to signing him for a few more years if he shows he is healthy. We desperately need a second lefty in the rotation which he would give us. You could really just look at it as a mid season trade that only costs us money. We shouldnt need to rush him back so even if he isnt back until August thats plenty of time for him to build up in time for the playoffs. Honestly might work to our advantage for him to miss the first half since we likely dont need any more than we have now to win the division.

Ynoa was a very underrated prospect imo. Not going to put a lot of faith in him but I wont be surprosed in the least bit if he turns into a very useful pitcher either starting or relieving.

My grandfather took a picture of me by the teepee with Noc when I was 4. I had a headdress and war paint on. Count me in looked like I was having a good time.

As to Bauer, I wouldn’t make a major commitment given how long he’s been out but anyone who needs starting pitching would be fools not to give him a shot. The guy can pitch and we’re looking for a pitcher not someone to date our daughters.

The current rumor is Glasnow and Margot to the Dodgers for Pepiot and Deluca. Pepiot is a former 45 who has shown a little bit in MLB action, and Deluca is a 40. It’s always hard to pin how the Rays value prospects, but the equivalent from the Braves is a pitcher below AJSS plus some 40 we’ve never heard of.

Margot has negative value, but could fit pretty well on the Braves bench. Glasnow is always hurt, but extremely effective when he’s healthy. For a team like the Braves who know they can get to October without him, using Glasnow with kid gloves until the playoffs could be very appealing. He could be a non factor as they win 95 games, and then be unleashed as a weapon in October.

I was thinking the same thing about Margot until I learned he was slated to earn $10 MM in 2024. Team option at $12 MM for 2025. If he were more affordable, he'd be a great addition.

There's nothing great about Margot. He'd be like the Fletcher addition...a salary dump that can be useful even though he's overpaid. The Braves need a backup CF, and that guy should probably bat RHed. Margot is an overpaid version of that, and if taking on his negative value decreases the price on Glasnow it could make sense.

The more I look into Glasnow the less I think he's worth all the trouble of acquiring him and keeping him healthy, but he at least makes some sense for a team mainly concerned about winning in October. The Braves probably don't care if he only pitches 100 innings during the season as long as he strikes out 10 guys in a couple playoff games.

I love the idea of Glasnow. B/c All I'd want to do is have him ready to be nasty 2x through the line up in the post season. Elder can get us there, but I want Glasnow in the post season.

Margot seems like someone we could move on by paying 3/4 of the salary or just have as a bench guy.

I think the current rules for tax and current trades have me confused on exactly how much money we have.
