He wants to play for the Braves. That is well known in this area. His parents still live here and it is a 2 hour and 45 min drive to Atlanta. They could come watch him pitch anytime they wanted to.
Now I'm not saying he wants to play here for half the price or anything like that but if he could...
I say we should but that is only because I know David and his family. They are great people and he would be a great addition to this organization. I literally live 500 yards from where David went to high school.
If he can pitch close to the level that he did last year, we are going to be ok. The worry is that he has a history of one good year followed by a bad year. I think he will be well above average for us in the NL and in the Braves enviroment.
Atlanta is banking on the return of his bat, which collected a sizzling .283/.330/.466 slash line with 26 homers and 105 RBI over 764 plate appearances between 2011-'12
Gilmartin stinks and this a great deal for the Braves, period.
Last 3 years combined slash line:
Ryan Doumit- .275/.329/.447
Brian McCann- .252/.329/.442
Ryan Doumit- .776OPS
Brian McCann- 771OPS
Exactly, please shut up Brule.
His career line is .268/.329/.438 That is not bad for an everyday catcher much less a bench player that might get 250 at-bats barring injury. Much like Floyd, this a depth move and a good one. Gilmartin is pretty much nothing.
