Calm down? LOL, if you really think I believe Gattis is in danger of being traded. Then you need help at learning to comprehend posts better (actually I could say that about many posts you rush to judgement over and not just mine). That said, I am not sure why I am even wasting my time responding to you and your childish junk.

Doumit was obviously brought in with the hopes he can provide power and big hits off the bench. Plus with him in the fold Gattis is available to pinch hit in games he doesn't start. Doumit has been a good pinch hitter in the past. So hopefully he will be again for us.
No question we had this deal in place as plan B in case Chavez chose elsewhere, which he just did. While I would have rather had Chavez over Doumit and kept Gilmartin to see if he could bounce back this year, this is a solid plan B.
I just hope the Braves learn from the mistake of taking low ceiling guys in the first round, and if the demise of Gilmartin accomplishes that, then this will turn out to be a huge victory. We will have two 20's-30's picks coming up in the draft. Please use them on high ceiling guys. No more Gilmartins.

I really disliked the Gilmartin pick too (and was annoyed by the comps to the Minor pick). Minor was a good pick but Gilmartin is no Mike Minor. I doubt he ends up anything more than a poor 5th starter or lefty specialist reliever if he even makes the Majors. He should have a better shot of at least making it being with the Twins now.

In 2012, Doumit hit .275 .320 .461 (good for a .781 OPS as a Catcher). In 2011, he hit .303 .353 .477 (good for an .830 OPS). This is a solid trade for our bench bat, and it's the very definition of something for nothing. The chances of Gilmartin ever sticking in the majors are slim, and, if he does, I doubt he's more than a back of the rotation SP or relief pitcher.

His career line is .268/.329/.438 That is not bad for an everyday catcher much less a bench player that might get 250 at-bats barring injury. Much like Floyd, this a depth move and a good one. Gilmartin is pretty much nothing.
Because like Francoeur, Gattis can hit moonball home runs but he also swings at a lot of bad pitches. He takes better walks than Francoeur ever did, but I think Gattis' value is very high considering he just came off a good power season and is under control pretty much as long as Bethancourt.
With BEthancourt it's still somewhat of an unknown, at least teams know Gattis can smack a ball. He'd add value to a team looking for a DH or Catcher.

Uh, Doumit hit well IN THE MAJORS before last year. Very well, actually.
Gilmartin was a questionable pick from the get-go and the organization clearly believes he doesn't hold much value here. He had a bad season last year and the org. felt moving him for a good bench bat wouldn't hurt us.
Seriously, what do you expect Gilmartin to become? His ceiling is probably a #5. We will not miss him one bit in the coming years. We have a good amount of prospects and young pitching better than him. He is almost a dime-a-dozen. Doumit is a very good bat for the bench.
