    2025 Around The League Thread

Add this to the Ken Rosenthal thing and these baseball reporter icons are getting really ornery lately.

None of that refutes what I said. His repertoire is still mostly trash. If anything, he reminds me of Jose Quintana, who is also getting way better than expected results on a mediocre repertoire.

    GDT 9-15: Braves in DC

If you think someone is signing Bichette to be anything other than SS, I think you are fooling yourself. Especially in a market devoid of SS options. What plans that team may have for him down the road are sort of irrelevant for this off-season.

"In actual dollars." Sure, smaller market teams won't even consider Bichette. So technically he is more attractive to them. But that isn't what is being discussed.

That would be a huge risk on his part. He's another guy whose defense carries him. And he'll be 33 in 2 months. I find it unlikely someone gives him better than the 3/75 he has left.

Bichette is gonna post a 4 fWAR season. He's a roughly average defender. No one in the right mind is valuing Kim more than Bichette in actual dollars.

13th in GB rate since last season. Good but not amazing. For reference, the difference between he and Charlie Morton (ranked 23rd) is only 3.7%. But the difference in Suarez and Framber Valdez (ranked 3rd) is 10.4%. The HR rate is also strange given his overall mediocre repertoire. Teams...

I still don't understand how Ranger Frigging Suarez takes that mediocre ensemble of pitches while throwing 90-92 and puts forth the type of seasons that he has the last 2 seasons. His WHIP since the start of last year ranks him 45th in the majors with a min of 200 IP. His K/9 is 42nd. But...

It would take a Pirates sweep to end up higher better than 4th, imo. Even then, I am not so sure. I would be willing to bet we split the remaining games among the Tigers and Nationals. Pirates probably only win 2-3 more games with their remaining schedule leading up to us.

    GDT 9-15: Braves in DC

I'm just speaking objectively. He would have some interest around the league should he opt out. But there are enough red flags that no one is going to pay a premium for his services.

The offense is also a concern. He was never a great hitter and he's been even worse than that overall (better with Atl, but still much worse than his career overall). I do think there is plenty enough reason for potential suitors to think he can bounce back to the 3-4 fWAR SS he was before the...

    GDT 9-15: Braves in DC

At the very least, if he does opt out, trading for Kim gives us an edge over other teams by being familiar with the team/city and giving us an earlier chance to negotiate before he does make that decision. I still find it unlikely anyone gives him more than a 2-3 year deal given he missed most...

I can't imagine anyone giving Kim more than 2 years again. He hasn't been good. If someone says he's is the most attractive SS on the market, you can immediately disregard their opinion. And Boras works for Kim, not the other way around.
