Smoltz elected to Cooperstown along with Pedro, Unit, and Biggio.

I'm fully prepared to accept the reality that this might be the only really good Braves-related news I might hear all year. Congrats Smoltzie!

World Series about to be won the Braves way.

The funny/sad thing is that Strickland is from the same county in Georgia where I grew up. Went to school with his older brothers. For the record, they all have about the same amount of class he showed tonight after giving up the home run. Embarassing.

OT: Ga State wants to repurpose Turner Field after Braves relocate.

Well, to be fair it IS a better idea than Mayor Reed's original idea of "budget housing" going there.

Keith Law's Top 25 players under age 25

By that logic of "his delivery will make him blow out" (not saying I'm agreeing with that, either), then wouldn't it make sense to get maximum value out of his arm while he's good? I mean, he's clearly shown he has the skills to not only a good starter, but a dominant starter. He's a great...

Keith Law's Top 25 players under age 25

That does make sense, of course. But when people say the BEST players under 25, it makes me think of the players in that age cutoff that are really good right now. If I'm playing MLB the Show, though, obviously this list makes sense. I have no doubts Harper will mature and be a perennial MVP...

Keith Law's Top 25 players under age 25

I don't get why Harper is #2. At this point in his career in relation to many others on this list, he's been the inferior player. I think at the very least, Fernandez and Stanton should rank higher than him, IMO. I also think Teheran should be a bit higher than that. Otherwise, not too bad.

    Nice article on Andrelton

"As human beings, we always have a tendency to want more," Gonzalez said. "I mean, last year, Justin Upton hit 27 home runs, drove in almost 80, and hit .270-something. That's a pretty good year. But you talk to some people, and they say he could hit 40, he could hit .320, drive in 120. "So we...

    Introductions Are In Order II

Hi, I'm kayak. Got my name from my steam profile, as I'm a bit of a big gamer. I mostly like to lurk, but I read most every major thread/gamethread (I actually enjoy reading the Fredi criticism, believe it or not). Anyway, became a Braves fan in '91, during the big "worst to first" run...

    Spring Training Gamethread/Discussion

I hope this good offense from Freddie and Jason carries over into the regular season... looks like we're gonna need it.

Braves sign Ervin Santana to 1 year 14.1M deal

Wow. What a morning. For anyone who doesn't like this move, consider the following. Give or take a few on either side, MLB has about 30 pitchers who make it to 200 innings pitched every year. It's really hard to do in this era of baseball. Part of the reason our pitching did so well last year...

Debate of the Week, who is on your HOF Ballot

Haven't seen this article posted yet, and it's a great one: http://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/nationals/greg-maddux-a-hall-of-fame-approach-that-carried-an-average-arm-to-cooperstown/2014/01/07/fdd7ae82-77d3-11e3-af7f-13bf0e9965f6_story.html

    Biggest Villains in Braves History

For a couple of years, at least, I'd include Kevin Brown on this list. He was on that infamous 97 Marlins team. And the very next year, he was on that darned Padres team that was such a thorn in our side. Granted, he didn't beat us because of a BS call or anything, but for 97-98 it seemed like...

Frank Wren's Winter Meeting Exit Interview On XM

I personally think it's ludicrous to be picking division winners in December. But then, maybe that's why I'm not paid to flap my gums on TV.

Around Baseball Offseason Edition - Derek Jeter will retire at seasons end

My problem with the Yankees isn't the fact that they spend a boatload of money and buy up all the free agents they want. My problem is that they act like they have some brilliant mystique, and don't like to bring up the real reason for their success. They're like that kid back in high school...
