yeah, but print is forever, and there it is in black and white.. so what does that say about a man who makes a claim like that and then less than 2 years later shows he is a liar by trading away one of the few productive hitters the team has in 2025??

or we can just continue to believe all the rumors that have never been confirmed by the man who is in charge.

Well, devil's advocate, I'm sure Murphy would love to get out, so AA coulda asked him. I doubt seriously Murphy signed up willingly to be a half time player

The fact that he already offered him up and the fact that we already have a younger, cheaper, better catcher.

The same guy who said we weren't on any monetary constraints this past winter?

It's GM speak. And I would imagine if were playing better and 4/5 of our rotation wasn't on the IL,. Murphy would not be available. At least not during the season.

I would agree with this. Murphy might want to be traded due to playing time..

Once Ozuna is gone, he should get a lot more playing time. I would also like to get Baldwin some reps at 1st to give Olson a game off or two occasionally.. but twit has to be gone before that would happen.

There also exist a world where Murphy can bring us someone capable of playing SS at a league average level, so we can finally put an end to the Nick Allen era.

I get GM speak.. but saying we are not on any monetary constraints and then not spending is not the same as saying I won't trade X player and then trading him. He already said he tried to spend but nothing came together... so he explained that away with more GM speak.. hard to spin the later..

after the 2026 season, the league will probably lock out. The new CBA will be a fight and I would personally blow the shit out of the budget for 2026 because there is no telling what the new deal will look like. He can buy another SS to end lemeke jr era for sure.

I would rather see Ozuna and every pen guy possible traded for as much prospect capital (to use in the offseason or be ready in 2026) as possible.... then start auditioning the Harris/Lara/Waldreps of the world for 2026 rolls on the big club.
 
Catcher is a tough oft banged up position.. having 2 good catchers is a luxury that the Braves don't need because they have a DH who can't do anything else but DH.. Having 2 good catchers where one can DH is a luxury that any team would love to have, including the Braves.. especially when one catcher has very little proven track record.

And regardless of that, as stated that article is 1.5 years old. Things change in that span.

What you would do is irrelevant. The fact remains that the SS market is shit. Bo Bichette is the only decent SS available and he's a negative defender. We also don't win bidding wars. Just about the only option we have to improve SS is trade for one. And with our farm, that is going to be hard to pull anyone halfway decent.

That isn't a luxury we can afford with Nick Allen at SS. DH is easy and cheap to fill. So is back-up Catcher. We could probably bring back Ozuna and TDA for not much more than Murphy is making.

Allen is a 2+ fWAR pace. Maybe 2b is the spot to upgrade

Allen is the least of the Brave's problems... Harris and Ozzie are just as bad. Fixing them or replacing them is going to be just as important. I also said trading Ozuna and any BP piece for prospect capital to use in the offseason.. to possibly use for a SS/2B..

The pen is going to have to be addressed next year regardless.. better to dump as much as possible now and audition what the team has.
 
If the Braves trade Bummer and prince Albert, the team will be under 170 million in committed payroll for 2026.. leaving 70+ before even hitting the first threshold.

AA should have 100 million to blow next year if payroll doesn't decline because of this years crap ass performance.
 
I can see both sides to the Murphy debate. However, if AA can get a legit SS for 160 games by giving up a catcher who only plays 90 games (and save payroll space), he has to make that trade.

Does that SS trade exist? No idea, but if it does it needs to happen.

AA's primary target should be Tucker, and this is the time to go ahead and win a bidding war. The window is closing, so who cares if they are paying someone like Tucker on a bad contract during the rebuilding years? Rotating Acuna/Tucker/Profar through DH would be ideal.

Agreed. The time to stop the bargain bin shopping should end this offseason and actually go for it while you have Acuna and other guys in their primes. I think that's what AA did with resetting the tax in the offseason.
