2025 Trade Deadline Thread

The casual fan won't notice that Iglesias is gone. Big Bear, maybe....but not Iggy.
I really can't stand the usual suspects holding water for AA.

Ozuna has zero value to this team at this point. He can't play that field and Murphy and Baldwin are better options to rotate DH. Trading has zero affect.

Iggy equally has been mediocre and would not be missed.

If you were getting nothing anyway then what’s the point? That’s what AA is saying. No one wanted Iglesias and Ozuna. Again, I find that hard to believe, but if that’s actually true then I get it.

What's the point? Either clear the payroll for AAAA fodder or eat payroll and get a prospect with a pulse.

It's that simple.

I just think most of us are frustrated because it will limit Drake Baldwin's progression. Ozuna hit 2 homers in the KC series, and now he's starting game 1 against the Reds, albeit, against a tough lefty. I'd rather see Drake play against the tough lefties in the lost season.

Snit scoffed when first asked about playing Murphy/Baldwin together and only did so because Ozuna was so bad at that point.

He just said no one was offering anything of value, I.e. an actual prospect that could potentially provide value in the future. I don’t believe him, but that’s what he is saying.

Either you think AA is full of shit (raises hand), or you’re getting bent out of shape over a non-deal that would’ve made no difference in any way. If you’re going to be angry, please use logic and pick the former to be mad about.

Jordan effing Montgomery was able to get traded with Shelby Miller, who is on the IL. But somehow Ozuna and Iggy just couldn't bring anything back.....

I would respect AA more if he came and said he thought we still have a shot with guys getting healthy. But this level of ineptitude is beyond forgiving.

I don’t want to be logical, I want to be upset! /s
(But for real, it’s disappointing we did nothing. And I think AA is full of crap.)

No one was calling on Anthopolous to "gut the team." Trading Ozuna, Iglesias and Johnson doesn't tear the beating heart out of a roaring lion. Murphy would have been a more painful loss, but everyone understood that's only a move you make if you can extract a pound of flesh. And it's not going to change how many tickets you sell or how much foot traffic you get in the Battery -- you still have Acuna, Riley, Albies, Olson, Harris, Strider, Baldwin, etc.

Aside from the substance of things, I'm getting a little tired of Anthopolous' public commentary. "I wasn't going to gut the team." "We're not going to make moves just to make moves." "Wheresoever did you get the notion that we prioritized resetting the luxury tax last offseason? Why, there were multiple moves I was oh-so-close to making that would have shot us miles over the luxury tax." It's smarmy and reeks of strawman building.

So, as I suspected, the Braves were not willing to eat money for nothing burgers.

I have a hard time believing you couldn’t get a lottery ticket or a high floor, low ceiling player (basically a 40 FV) for either Ozuna or Iglesias and their salary paid. That should’ve been done. Anything less? Not so much.

I'm personally not sure I agree that you trade them for whatever you can get.

It has to be something that projects to help.

That's what figured. It went above AA's head and they told him not to do anything to keep fans a little interested still with big names. Most fans aren't like us on this board and aren't this passionate.
It's true that most fans would have been more upset they traded a big name for nothing than keeping them.
