Tankathon draft pick watch

Eh, we are 3-3 vs Washington. And that was back when our rotation was actually healthy and we were playing relatively well.

And we're virtually guaranteed to lose to Skenes if he throws in the Pitt series.

Just gotta stack a bunch of Ls the next 2 weeks.

Our next 10 games are against playoff teams (@CHC, SEA, CHC, @HOU). After that, 10 of our final 13 games are against the Nationals and Pirates - with a three-game series @ Detroit sandwiched in there, too.

That inevitable hot streak over the last 13 games is going to be extremely frustrating.
I just know they’re going to go 11-2 in those last 13 and pass up 4-5 teams in front of them

Pirates shut out the Dodgers (and have Skenes on the mound tomorrow). If we lose tonight, we’ll be in sole possession of the second best draft odds.

Pirates complete the sweep of the Dodgers somehow. We are in sole possession of third best odds now.

Twins-White Sox about to get started. A Twins win would mean we’re tied with them for second best odds.

We're only a game behind the Twins for the second best odds, but they're pretty clearly awful and almost seem like they're purposely tanking. I don't think there's any chance we are worse than them the rest of the way. That would lock up the White Sox and Twins with the top two odds, meaning we'd basically be playing for third best odds. In that case, here's where it sits today:

3. Atlanta
T4. Pittsburgh (0.5 GB)
T4. Athletics (0.5 GB)
6. Baltimore (1 GB)
7. Miami (2 GB)

This weekend, it's Atlanta v Seattle, Pittsburgh v Milwaukee, Athletics @ LAA, Baltimore v LAD, Miami v Philly. The Mariners have been bad lately, but it would be nice to at minimum lose 2/3 or all three to them because the other teams we're battling with mostly play tough opponents.

They sold a whole lot more than just Correa and Duran… they traded away 11 players at the deadline.
They sold off Jax, Varland, Coulombe, and Stewart in additon to Duran so the Twins' bullpen is reduced to Cole Sands, a couple of retreads (incluing former-Brave Tonkin) and some AAAA guys. No lead is safe and if the starter falters, games become blowouts.

They also moved Bader. Current roster is just a shell of the team that started the season.

My somewhat educated guess is that as painful as this season has been, the team will be a lot better off next year.

A few emerging ml guys, some high draft picks, and having reset the luxury tax penalties, plus a bunch of money to address needs.

The roster, despite the injuries and the Profar fiasco, looks pretty strong. Harris, Ozzie, Riley will be healthy and the money will be used to acquire pitching depth.

The pain of this season will leave the team in a much stronger position.

Kind of a mini reset. We needed to boost the minor leagues and reset the tax and we got to do both at the same time while having plenty to spend this offseason to fix the holes. Snit is the only one I worry about.

The more I’ve thought about, would it make sense that after 49 years in the org, and a World Series, that snitker would just quietly retire in the offseason? Wouldn’t there be a farewell tour? It’s possible it happens but it seems unlikely at this point.

AA better absolutely snit-proof the team next year.
