Nepotism does run rampant and I agree with thewupk that it's not just in the announcing field.
Of all the Caray's (and I've listened to three of them), I thought Skip was the best. I grew up in Southern Minnesota and on summer nights when the wind was blowing right, we could pick up KMOX, which was the Cardinals' flagship radio station with Harry Caray at the microphone. Even then, I got tired of listening to his rambling and hystrionic play calls. If anyone ever wonders where Chip got his penchance for saying a routine fly had a chance to go out of the park, it was from his grandfather. Harry became a cultural icon and I'll admit I'm probably in the minority, but I found his announcing a bit buffoonish. I prefer announcers that don't make their own personalities part of the action.
Skip, on the other hand, had an unparalled wit that was often belied by his deadpan delivery. Both he and his dad could slice up a player, but Harry used a machete while Skip used a pen knife.
As long as I never have to hear Chip announce another Braves game I don't care how terrible any of his sons are. Dude is an insufferable dinosaur enabler who turns every single broadcast into a rant about how terrible baseball is nowadays.
