Economics Thread

I would have told him back in the Spring that planting a crop targeted for export to China was probably not a good idea when the guy just elected was already pushing a trade war with China. He should have given me a call.
I’m actually pretty anti-farm bailouts just like any other business. I could see maybe meeting somewhere in the middle and providing some sort of nominal assistance to provide families losing farms with some sort of help in maintaining a homestead or something, but I’m not really a fan of jumping in to help some specific businesses to stay afloat while letting others go under.

Ideally the Mormons would buy it and turn it into more beef pasture. $8/lb ground beef is cramping my style.
Go in with someone and buy a cow. have it cut up the way you want.

Or, start shooting deer. I'm not sure where you are, but we shoot more than we can eat. I'd be happy to get you some.

Grew up eating venison (family is massive hunters)but parents weren’t exactly top tier chefs, so I think my taste is forever tainted. I find it to dry.

Gimme a cow every day

I really should start hunting again. My real concern is that if I noticed it, people tighter on cash are noticing it. Tariffs shouldn’t be impacting the price of beef but that’s where everyone’s mind will go.

It is leaner, and its not corn finished.

You have the processor add some beef fat to it, and boom can't tell the difference. They do that with my sausage (wild pork and deer) and it turns out really great. I get my sausage smoked so its not that raw fatty stuff that makes the grill flare up like store bought.

As long as someone is ok paying the processor fee which is likely 150-200 bucks I'll provide anyone with a deer that wants it.

Deer tenderloin is as good as it gets folks. Can give you the recipe and everything.

Time spent in the woods is never wasted. My two boys want to go more than I do, but I always say yes and its always worth it.

Love deer meat. I'm not hunter though, so it's just a delicacy I get when my brother-in-law invites me over for some. Fried deer tenderloin, rice, and biscuits - man, tough to top it.

Loins cooked rare on the grill are one of my favorite things

Family friend of mine does a red currant jelly reduction on it with brown rice for it and I’m not sure I’ve had a better meal in a steakhouse or Vegas

Not a bad return so far on US Gov investment in Intel.

Going to end up just like AIG and generate a massive windfall.

You guys seem really unclear on what the issues are with these policies. Tariffs aren’t criticized for being bad at driving revenue and taking stakes in private companies isn’t bad because it won’t yield some sort of return. But that equity was squeezed out of the market, so the economic benefit of any success by Intel is being diluted as a bunch of shares sit in a government-owned portfolio.

And yet it could be argued the increased valuation doesn't exist without this unorthodox approach.

You’re telling me the government backed company is performing well. Well this is a shocking development

Did AIG make it out on the right foot?

Seems very capitalistic to take a non-controlling interest in a company and then sell at a gain.

China and Singapore agree with your definition of (state) capitalism.

Laissez faire is more my cup of tea, but I’m a mid IQ do nothinger

We have a prominent grass fed cattle operation here. You can walk in and buy whatever you want ready to go.

Grass fed and finished beef is worse. Its edible in only the broadest terms. I made the mistake years ago when it came to prominence to buy some as Christmas gifts, and I won't do that again. At least it was the thought that counts....
