2025-2026 offseason thread

A couple of days ago we all thought Lehmann or Lombard were gonna get the job and Kim hadn't opted out so they must be working something out and here we are today with Weiss as manager and Kim is a FA. This offseason has started out as bad as it possibly could have.

Most likely Lehmann said no, and AA panicked

Looks like Nacho, Clohisy, Sinnard had strong performances in the AFL.

Does this elevate any of them to stronger prospect status? Any chance that this puts them in the plans for this year?
We already knew what we had in Nacho but Sinnard is pretty interesting. I have another bad feeling the Braves will keep Nacho as a utility guy and won't go after somebody like Donovan.

nacho's EV was only 86 and we already knew he had an advanced approach at the plate. unless his defense took a step forward i don't think much has changed about his outlook.

likewise clohisy's .742 OPS isn't really impressive given how hitter-friendly the AFL is

sinnard definitely took a step forward though, it sounds like his stuff was measurably better than during the season and he'll probably have a shot at a call up next year given our injury luck with SP

Sinnard definitely adds some depth to things. Nacho is still blah to me. Use him as a secondary piece in a trade.

Clohisy is a speed guy. Led the Sally League with 60 SBs in 92 games and then stole 19 more in 39 games when promoted to Mississippi. Currently leading the Arizona Fall League with 17 SBs. Bat will be the question. Looks like meager power. I've wrote in the past how guys with this profile always seemed to find their way onto a roster in the cave painting era as a 5th OF who was usually a defensive replacement and pinch-runner. Those guys appear to be luxuries now but Justin Dean did just get a World Series ring.

I'm surprised the Braves didn't want to have Alvarez moved around the diamond in Arizona, but I imagine they only get so much input with the other franchises who have players on the Glendale roster this year. If they wanted to get him experience at other positions, I don't know why they just didn't send him to winter ball.

Lara's ERA looks good, but he's walked 10 guys in 8.1 IP to go along with 11 Ks. I'm curious where they start Sinnard in 2026. I would guess Mississippi. He's only a year removed from surgery, so I hope they take their time with him, but I'm probably pushing a rope on that.

The Braves need to be on this ASAP:

Breaking Cubs news: Lefty starter Shota Imanaga is a free agent, sources tell ESPN. The team rejected their option to extend his contract out to a fifth year. That triggered his ability to exercise a $15 million player option for 2026. He declined that as well.

Well this was a no brainer for Imanaga, regardless what his plans are for next year. The Cubs will now clearly give him a QO and if he wants to stay in Chicago, he can accept that and get $7 million more than that player option was worth. Or he can test FA likely for much more than that 15 million option.

As for us being in on him, he will surely have a QO attached. He has 3.28 ERA vs 4.24 FIP in the majors. Doesn't exactly scream a must have FA to me. I would not want to give up a draft pick to sign him.

Lara and Sinnard could be big parts of this season. I think both start in the minors. Sinnard probably gets some time as a starter and finishes in Atlantas pen to keep his innings down. Lara continues rapidly refining his control. He has elite closer potential but might still be a couple years from reaching that potential. He could be a viable option early this year.

Yeah the walks are always going to be the x factor with him… I certainly don’t see him being consistent enough to be an MLB starter but he could be deadly in a high leverage relief role if he develops

If I had to guess, I would say that we are relatively quiet in FA, outside of relievers and maybe a bench piece. I think we will be more active on the trade market.

We already know AA tried to get Buxton at the deadline. I think he revisits that deal and tries to get some sort of package deal for Buxton and Joe Ryan.

Lara could be one of those guys who they somehow tweak his delivery and he then throws quality strikes going forward. The arm strength is obviously there and as we've seen countless times over the years, pitchers can turn on a dime performance-wise in either direction. It's just unlocking it that's the challenge.

The FA SPs that will have QOs this year all seem to be the type of players good enough for QOs, but not good enough to make the draft pick a non-factor when deciding to sign them. Seems like a perfect recipe for guys to be waiting a long time to be signed.

Once AA has a boner for somebody he's persistent. Buxton has came up several times the past few years so I could see him getting traded and probably Joe Ryan also. Waldrep or Richie would have to be in the deal and maybe Owen Murphy also.

It's hard to gauge Minny. They got poor value out of their deadline deals, so they clearly aren't being run very well.

Hopefully we can sell them on Nacho's fall performance and he can be a big part of that deal.

We really are just going to re-sign Ozuna and Iglesias, sign a couple journeyman relievers, and call it an off-season aren’t we? We’ll probably trade for a low floor, high ceiling project for SS too.
