2025-2026 offseason thread

AA has been basically asleep for two years now. What makes any of you think he is going to wake up and be good all of a sudden. Dude doesn’t shit gold. Stop making excuses for him and accept what some us have been saying for over a year. He isn’t very good at baseball gm’ing.

It's hard to gauge Minny. They got poor value out of their deadline deals, so they clearly aren't being run very well.

Hopefully we can sell them on Nacho's fall performance and he can be a big part of that deal.
somebody posted a link about trade candidates the other day (enscheff maybe?) that mentioned the twins' situation. the owners tried to sell the team but couldn't find a buyer because it's carrying ~$400M in debt. it seems like they might be desperate to shed salary above all else.

Is it sad that I miss the post about cancelling my flights over reading about this dumpster fire of an org right now.

Our big hope is to trade for a bunch of over priced players that come from a culture of losing. Yeah.

He's getting blamed for GM issues. If we can't blame the GM for that, then who?
The people who won't give him the resources he needs? If he's not going to get the money, he needs to actually make trades - for better or for worse - to keep this window open. But man, he can't catch a break. lmao

then maybe he should not come out and say that there is no restrictions on payroll.

Alex Athletics stated that the Atlanta Braves payroll would increase for 2025, but the opening day payroll ended up being lower than in 2024. He has explained that the team has significant long-term contracts and has spent a lot on its own players. The team's current strategy appears to be to stay below the luxury tax threshold for 2025, possibly to avoid further penalties.

You don't get to defend a GM by claiming he has no money to spend after he dealt away a 5 win catcher making MLB minimum to sign a worse older catcher to a much larger contract. Simply not making that trade would have simultaneously improved the catcher position AND freed up cash for a couple arms.

The only possible defense for AA's (lack of) moves lately is that the payroll was unexpectedly decreased after he already had plans in place. I seem to be one of the bigger AA apologists on the board right now, so I tend to think that scenario is more likely than AA suddenly forgetting how to build a roster. However, I also think AA has suffered a bit from thinking he's smarter than he is, and some of his recent moves have been needlessly complicated or risky (Murphy and Kelenic are great examples of moves that were head scratches the moment they were made).

AA had a bad offseason last year and 2 bad trade deadlines in a row. He can't afford to shit the bed again this offseason. I don't think they'll bring back Ozuna unless it's cheap but I do think they won't do much regarding DH and once again rely on the health of our guys and maybe pick up Bader just in case. SP won't be addressed with anybody having a QO attached and SS who knows. Trust is earned not given and right now there's not a lot of trust after the Weiss hire.

The Braves lee are launched their IPO July 2023. Does being publicly traded have anything to do with the decisions by the front office, namely McGuirik?

We really are just going to re-sign Ozuna and Iglesias, sign a couple journeyman relievers, and call it an off-season aren’t we? We’ll probably trade for a low floor, high ceiling project for SS too.
I don’t think they re-sign Ozuna to the rest seems plausible and I 💯% think they’ll sign a SS to compete with Nick Allen for the starting job …

YUCKKK
