Second ('Third') Trump Presidency Thread

Rule of law is meaningless if that includes allowing a rogue state to be infiltrated by our enemies to plot our destruction. If you dont' think that was happening then its hard to agree on anything within this discussion.
I don't think Venezuela was plotting our destruction and even if it was it lacks the capability to effect it. However, there are limits as to what a country can do without risking its sovereignty. The regime in Venezuela has ignored elections that it lost badly. It has brought about an economic and humanitarian crisis that has displaced a large number of its citizens with destabilizing effects on its neighbors. By creating this crisis and ignoring election results it has lost legitimacy and provided more than enough justification for other countries to intervene.

There is the separate issue of Maduro's individual culpability in the drug trade. I leave that one to the courts to decide. I do find it interesting that there was no mention of methamphetamines in his indictment. Not surprising given that Venezuela is more of a transit point for cocaine going to Europe. But still interesting. European countries should be grateful we are acting to interdict the cocaine trade going their way.

Venezuela was doing it with the CCP/Russia - how is that even debateable?

Speaking of the rule of law. The decision by Hugo Chavez to seize the assets of oil companies is a prime example of what happens when rule of man replaces rule of law. Not surprisingly, this has led to a precipitous decline in investment in Venezuela. There are pragmatic as well as ethical reasons for supporting rule of law over rule of man. It is going to be an enormous challenge for Venezuela to restore rule of law. Among other things they will have to settle the claims that Exxon Mobile, ConocoPhillips and others have outstanding.

This is a tragedy. This poor woman didn’t have to die. She was radicalized by the democrats in thinking administering proper federal immigration enforcement is evil.

Just a shame all around.
